Well..looks like we have our answer. OCZ finally is providing driver support via their site. In addition, it looks like the M98 HD4k series will be compatible, and quite possibly available soon?
Snipped from their driver downloads forum:

    M98XT, anyone?

Also, just pulled this from the .inf for installing the M98 Drivers..

These are the only 2 cards supported by this .inf

    [ATI.Mfg.NTamd64]
    "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870" = ati2mtag_M76, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9508&SUBSYS_0770152D
    "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 " = ati2mtag_M76, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9509&SUBSYS_207A161F
    "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 " = ati2mtag_M76, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9508&SUBSYS_207A161F
    "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 " = ati2mtag_M76, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9508&SUBSYS_207A161F
    "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870" = ati2mtag_M9x, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_945A&SUBSYS_207A161F
    "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 " = ati2mtag_M9x, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_945A&SUBSYS_00021895

Looks like this may be the resolution to some driver problems..gonna install and test. :)

I don't play farcry2 but I've problem with new driver 8.11. I play dota (most popular wc3 games) my problem is windows doesn't adapted my game to 16:10 when I choosed 1600*1200 res. It shown 4:3 and 2black bar that I've not found this problem with old driver. Not only this problem but also have problem with DMC4 at 1920*1200 at superhigh AA8x, the game was error and closed itself. I can play with all setting except that setting. Anyone has problem with 8.11 driver?

I noticed the same issue after upgrading from the previous stock drivers. There is no more scaling, it will always letterbox and that also reduces your FPS and gameplay. My comp ran fallout 3 maxed out @ 60 FPS Ultra High 1920.1200, but when going down to 1680x1050 it screwed the FPS all up..was hitting 30s and 40s. Im bout to try a personal custom .inf with the 8.11 driver, I'll let you know how it goes. But, the driver I installed from the OCZ site, I believe it's 8.10 & it runs perfectly.

Oh, and the cards are gonna run $389-429, depending on vendor.

my stock driver is the same as the OCZ site driver. It's 8.10 & runs perfectly like you said. I assume its because of the mobility modder modding 8.11 driver incomplete. may be I'm wrong.

well..i believe you're right. Gimme a sec, still driver testing. It seems 8.10 is more stable than 8.11 - I modded the .inf for 8.11 to allow scaling of the desktop by basically using the meat of the 8.10 .inf with the tweaks of the 8.11 version. Im bout to reboot..just tried something with Crossfire. brb.

The cards are usually available much later than the initial release. As per OCZ the notebooks should begin shipping Q2 (march) with the new VGA, the parts will not be available till much later.

These notebooks are not available as individual components. Currently there are 4 different part numbers and shipped as each configuration.

    Single card, DVD
    Sngle card Blu-ray
    Dual card DVD
    Dual card Blu-ray

Once the 48XX models are released the VGA as individual components should follow a few months later.

I did manage to find one M88XT 3870 on Puget's site.. it's the only notebook card they have listed. It's $257... that should give everyone a perspective on pricing for the 4k series. Probably(hopefully) within $100 or so. Here's the link to the GPU. Reasonable, better than a $600 GTX ;P

Just by it now or December as you planned with only one 3870, and upgrade to Dual 4850s or (if the WB supports it) Dual 4870s in March.

This is provided you buy from a seller who will be willing for you to swap it out with the new cards. Rob from RKC will probably let you (verify with him) and KillerNotebooks will too. Don't know about xoticpc.

I live in Australia... I would import but the exchange rate is a killer (And I have no frakking idea about import/customs tax or whatever)... I'll go and bug some local guys (p4, affordable laptops) but I haven't heard much about them either so I have no idea if they'd let me.

P4laptops have absolutely no clue about laptops. There prices are BS.

KillerNotebooks ships to Australia. Go on their website or on their forum for more info. PM Mark on guruofgamingforums (KN forums) and he'll tell you all about it.

Haha, ok. I noticed that their (And all other local sellers) prices were bloody high, even when the exchange rate was about 0.9 US dollars the laptops were still ~$4k AUD.

I looked at KillerNotebooks before, was really interested... but dismissed it because of the exchange rate but now all the local prices got jacked up again I'll go and take a look, thanks XD

Considering that the MSI GT725 will ship with the 4850 in the next month or so, I would speculate that the 4850 is at least a possibility for the OCZ Whitebook in the same time frame.

March makes more sense to me since the main competitor, Clevo is waiting every year Cebit to show there new products (the upcoming new D901c).

I am glad as a consumer watching such powerfull Ati's comeback in the market after all these problems nVidia created in the market with all those thousands of faulty chips, lower prices *hopefully* for all of us as well ..

    you sure about that zfactor?
i would be more interested in dell supporting the new quad and the 9800m gtx's then buying all new. i think the xps would be king of the hill on all fronts if it did. since it can over clock the cpu, while the np9262 can't.

still trying to figure out why everyone is rushing the 3870's out all fast. they have only been out for a few months

lol dell will not be able to support quads as intel will not be releasing (as far as i know) a quad for the older mobo chipset. the highest the current 1830 will ever be able to use at this point is the x9000 which i have installed already and while i can overclock running the x9000 at 3.4 makes the fans sound louder than the 10 fans i have in my desktop its literally crazy loud so i keep it at 3.0 for daily use and only go to 3.4 when i feel the need to do so. and the 9800 i highly doubt they will support on my machine either. now maybe a new version of the 1730 but they would have to cut the price in half to compete with the ocz with 4870's imo. i got my 1730 so much cheaper than they sell em for i cant complain. but for the retail prices of the 1730 NO WAY in heck id pay what they ask for it.
