I was on a budget and used the optical drive from my old laptop (Asus Z71) when I put together my HGL-30. It saved me $60, but I was never able to find a mounting bracket to properly secure it to the chassis. Friction has been doing a good job of keeping it in place, but I never meant it to be a long term solution.

Does anyone know where I can find one of those brackets, or possibly a drive that comes with one? I already contacted my reseller and bizcom-ca.com. The latter has yet to return my email. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately I you may not ever hear from Biz-com because they do not usually deal with end users, only OEMs.

Double whammy...I don't know anywhere that you can buy just the bracket.

Now that we've solved that riddle, I'll look into finding a dvd burner that comes with the bracket. Seems like it'd be universal. Anyone know for sure?

No, they are not universal because the connector needs to be the same type and in the same place to match up to the motherboard, and if you want the bracket to match the color of your HGL30 you will simply have to get the HGL30 ODD that you want.

@roigato--Donald knows what piece you're looking for.

I think you would probably just be better off getting the proper HGL30 drive--that way you can get the proper fit and have it match the rest of your notebook better. I don't think there are any other options other than leaving your setup the way it is. Unfortunately it's not like desktops where the brackets are somewhat universal.

Good advice, thanks. I guess now the question is where I could purchase one of these drives.

You could check with the Compal resellers.

Try giving Donald a call at powernotebooks.
