OK I'm realizing I'm somewhat of a noobie to this customized notebook thingee and alot of you are way beyond me. Anyway here's my story:
I recently finished grad school and am in the market for a top of the line, awesome PC.
Until a month ago I didn't know brands other than Dell/HP/Gateway/Lenovo existed.
My research-to-date has lead me to the Whitebook (customized) as the way to go, so I am set on an OCZ Whitebook due to various awesomeness criteria (primarily: dual hard drives in RAID 0, DDR3 RAM, Xfire 3870 graphics cards).
I've also recently researched thoroughly all vendors offering the Whitebook (aka NBIMwhateveritis aka Arimawhatever u wanna callit) and found that RK Computers (google it.. not sure if i can post links yet) has the best price. I've done a thorough comparison.
So, my question is really a confirmation of what I "think" I already know:
Has anyone found a better price on this than RK COMPUTERS?
(i.e. have I missed something?)
Fyi specs on my "ultimate" machine are:
$2440 for T9400, 4GB OCZ DDR3 1033Mhz RAM, dual 320gb sata ii 3gb/s in raid 0, vista 64 home premium, ati dual 3870's in crossfire
...and yes i realize there are other superior (quad) processor options but not presently worth the buck imo.. upgradeability is partly why i opted for this.
Thanks for any input. Seems there is no argument that whitebook is supreme so I figured this thread would be vitally important to those now considering buying it.
Cheers,
Brian

oops sorry, said I'm in the market for an "awesome PC" I meant "awesome notebook (desktop replacement) of course" thanks
-
So long as you're not in NY State, RK is definitely a very decent choice. The fact that NYS residents have to pay tax on purchases from RK is a bit of a downer.

I've also heard good things about them. I personally got mine from Xotic and have been very pleased with them. One difference that I should point out is that Xotic offers a 3 year complete care warranty standard in the price whereas RK I think only 1, FWIW.

I have one from RK and they also do offer a 2nd and 3rd year extended warranty, i got the 3rd year with mine. -

fringe, beside the blu-ray, yours is the exact configuration I'm looking for on RKC...i'm jealous!

All of the whitebooks come with three different lights for the keyboard.

Obviously, it really comes down to personal preference. Whatever you feel comfortable with and whatever price you like. -
Very pleased with my OCZ from RKC.
Rob has been great before, during, and after the sale. -
Xoticpc has good service.
-
Wow thanks to everyone for the prompt and helpful replies.
Will order from RK Computers with a sound mind sometime soon (when I can afford it!) -
You may want to consider XoticPC if this is a future purchase. Their customer service has been rock solid for myself. I've never had a question or concern go unanswered. Also, I had a bad BIOS flash, and with them fully aware of that and the fact that I OC'd my system REGULARLY, they replaced the entire rig with a brand new unit. I mailed it overnight on a tuesday, and had a new system in front of me by Saturday afternoon that same week. Not many companies will allow replacements if they know you caused the problem. And some, they can use the OC'ing as an easy out. I was very impressed, and suprised, that they were willing to fully replace the rig. I was expecting a repair, and also expecting a week to 2 week turn around. My only downfall, was it took me a week to tell them the problem cause I was too busy trying to fix it myself. So, time wasted was mine.. but Justin went above and beyond to prioritize with the repair dept. and make sure I wasn't out any additional time.
Oh, and they're also sending me some new thermal pads @ no cost. -
OT: E-Wrecked, when you got your system, did you get like a hard plastic piece that looks like it would be a cover for something? -
Oh, dag..sorry man.. Yeah, I believe that is in case you decide to replace the illuminated logo on top of the notebook lid. It looks as though it would fit, and I can only assume that's the place it would go. Haven't tried popping off the stock logo though to find out.
OK, so OCZ Whitebook it is. Best vendor/price?
