The title says it all. One of the four USB port doesn't respond to anything. It's the one to the right of the laptop. I kinda need it since I need one port facing that way so my tv card's remote works.

Here's a screeny of the device manager if it could help.

Have I missed installing any drivers? Could it just not be plugged in, and can I open my laptop without voiding my warranty? How long would it be in repairs if I'd send it in, and would that cost anything? It's not exactly a major problem, but it's quite annoying.

I bought it from zeptoexperten.se if it's of any interest. It has never worked, but it does have the 5V connected, so I can rechage my Mp3 player in it.

I have to wonder whether it is a physical problem, not software, since it has been there from the start. It is possible that a connector is not properly seated although I would have expected power and data to share the same cable. Access to the back of the port probably needs removal of the palmrest which is something I have not tried, so I don't know if it is easy.

I'm not sure either. An internal USB port is generally located on the motherboard and consists of 2x4 pins with 1 empty, 1 ground and 1 +5V. If it doesn't work, I guess a data pin could perhaps be bent, a chip broken on the motherboard or something like that. Got a hard time thinking that it could only be partially connected. Guess the cable itself going from the external port to the internal could be damge too.
Thanks for the tip, but no dice.

The USB port on the right side of the notebook is located on the Audio panel, and can be exchanged by changing the audio panel by itself. No need for a complete motherboard change unless the audio board has messed up something on the motherboard itself.
