I own a couple of Australian-designed and made ex-military Opentec 'Openfire' RPC notebook computers and wondered who else here uses them? I like them because they're much more military-oriented than your average Panasonic 'Toughbook' (of which I own three - CF-28, CF-29 and a CF-18).

You may be right about this. I used to deal a fair bit with opentec in a previous job (late 90's early 2000's). Back then they used to design and manufacture the whole lot themselves here (at their North Ryde NSW facility).

But things being what they are generally I wouldn't be surprised if the design and/or manufacture is now off-shored.

I don't know about the Opentec 'Openfire' systems being Mitac or Getac units in disguise. As far as I can tell the RPC-II and RPC-III units I have here are completely designed and manufactured right here in Australia. The place that made them is about 25 km away from where I used to live in Sydney. Opentec used to be in Adelaide I think and was purchased by PNE (a big defence electronics place located in Sydney) about 4 or 5 years ago.

The newer systems could well be outsourced though - almost all electronics companies outsource some or all production if it's cost-effective.
