I own a couple of Australian-designed and made ex-military Opentec 'Openfire' RPC notebook computers and wondered who else here uses them? I like them because they're much more military-oriented than your average Panasonic 'Toughbook' (of which I own three - CF-28, CF-29 and a CF-18).

if i am not mistaken these are getac (mitac) machines. they are used in several countries but most of the time under getac brand.

But things being what they are generally I wouldn't be surprised if the design and/or manufacture is now off-shored. -
I don't know about the Opentec 'Openfire' systems being Mitac or Getac units in disguise. As far as I can tell the RPC-II and RPC-III units I have here are completely designed and manufactured right here in Australia. The place that made them is about 25 km away from where I used to live in Sydney. Opentec used to be in Adelaide I think and was purchased by PNE (a big defence electronics place located in Sydney) about 4 or 5 years ago.
The newer systems could well be outsourced though - almost all electronics companies outsource some or all production if it's cost-effective.
