Has anyone got feedback about them? I can't search the forums for some reason. All I know is they are from Alienware...

They look like rebranded sagers if you look at the same model from clevo, now if they develop their own machines then i will be happy to take a look and talk about them.

    Thanks Moo :)

I wanted to drop in and post. I’ve been around this forum for a while, as well as a few others (My name in the past was AlienRichard) I’m think most of you are familiar with the Origin story. The quick version, I have two partners here at Origin. The three of us worked at AW for over 10 years each, holding exec titles. After “D” day we got together and formed Origin. We wanted to go back to our roots and the early days.

As for our current notebook, yes it is a Clevo. We had the A panel tooled with the Origin logo, it was not designed specifically for us (you know that already) Its available painted or not :) This is something that has always been done. We do work closely with the manufacture to provide our feedback and request mods to better suit our needs. Our notebook PM has been doing this for years and has worked with many of the ODM’s (Clevo, Uniwi, Arimi…….) I’m sure you can guess who he did it for in the past  . We have been working on getting our price lower and be competitive, It’s a little easier on the desk top side, but don’t give up on us yet  If anyone has any questions or comments, let me know.

This is our first review (desktop) http://hothardware.com/Articles/The-Origin-of-Speed-Origin-PCs-Genesis-Desktop-Reviewed/

And here is a quick vid on the notebook, not a complete review, but still entertaining.

Thanks for joining the forums, Richard, glad to have you aboard.

The boutique notebook market has been standing still for a while, not too much activity until you guys came along. I like your business model, especially on the support side with the technicians that built your PC providing the tech support. That's unique.

Hey Richard, what are you goals in competing against other companies, and also what do you mean as going back to the old days? What do you think of the current state of Alienware now? It so much better with the pricing you know that before they were so much much money now a bit more reasonable, also the designs are so much better looking but we can never forget about the past history of the machines.

Treading on thin ice with that ...

I'm guess-ta-mating that he means boutique brand and not a mainstream machine

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

    Hi Charles,
I agree, the boutique market isn’t quite what it used to be. I guess that could happen with the two major players, not sure how to put it, I guess it can be said as their gone. Yes, we really want to focus on the support side of things, after all everyone offers more or less the same hardware. It comes down to price, and I feel more importantly, support/ service to the customer. We’re a new company, but have been doing this for a while now. We know what works and what doesn’t.

    Hi Freedom,
As for competing and going back to old school, its offering high end components (no proprietary or parts that will limit future upgrades) putting the customer first and listening to what they want. We have a lot of experience and have been down this road before. In short we’re here to work with our customers, build you a machine the way you want it, give you more than a outsourced experience. Not to dodge your Dell question, but I don’t feel it would be right to comment, I’m sure you can understand. In regards to pricing, we’re working on the notebook side of things. (We have already worked it out to have our first price drop) Desk Tops I feel we are very competitive, configure similar system with other “boutique” companies and you’ll see ;) I better stop before I start rambling on and start sounding like a commercial :spinny:

If anyone ever has any questions or comments, feel free to post them or PM me.

    Richard

I inquired about the possibility for a W870CU addition to the lineup, unfortunetly they dont seem to be interested in a 17" model right now.

Maybe the x8100 will be replaced by the x7200 when it will be available.

I saw that the Eon 18 is discontinued. I love the idea of 3D but I want the power of the Eon 17. What are the chances of either an Eon 17 3D or Eon 18 3D? I'm looking for a desktop replacement so the bigger the better.

I'm guessing any new Origin laptops would be announced at CES?

The machines look nice when it comes to the internals, however I am not a huge fan of the clevo bases. I know origin has alot of desktop case options and that is awesome, I am just hoping for some more case options then just lid coverings. Though I will say the thought of custom paint and your custom artwork on your lid is downright amazing.

My hopes is that they will offer more bases then clevo and add in some origin custom designs. My hopes for Origin is they grow strong and are a real presence in the industry. I really like the ideals set behind the company. Customer service that is there for you, for life, thats huge imo. I am torn in wanting to support this kind of company with my wallet and helping it thrive, but I am also held back by the design. For me, a computer should look as nice as it runs, I love a nice design aesthetic. However that is only my opinion, to others the clevo base for the laptops is beautiful. To each his own. I just know when buying a laptop and investing a substantial amount in it, it should be everything you want and make you happy.
