    Hey there peepz,

As I was trying to see how far I can take my Compal I wanted to OC the CPU.
however for that to work I needed CPUFSB/CPUCOOL.

And CPUFSB in turn needs the PLL manufacturer / Version to operate.

Since I've no appetite to take apart my compal IFL90 I was wondering if anyone here knew what the PLL manufacturer is for this LAptops Mainboard and the version number???????

    Anyone???

Incase you don't know the PLL but you DO have your Compal laying in pieces on your desk.. here's a guide to find the PLL :D It's writtin on a chip inside <3

    http://www.podien.de/FSB.HTM

    THANKS! SailCat

Searched all over the board, and didn't find any. There is certainly no crystal, and all chips that were looking as PLL were not.
And I also found out that IFL90 has MXM III size VGA board. So maybe it'll be possible to upgrade in the future. ^^
Also VGA has DDR2 2.5ns Samsung memory, damn cheapskates.

Where did you find the information about MXM-III graphic card?
Last time I checked, it was MXM-II (mxm-upgrade.com).

    Thanks.

    AMG!!!

I almost gave up about the PLL!!
I've been looking for it for ages.. but couldn't find it.
Also I broke a screw in my screen when trying to dig it up myself and that took my appetite for breaking apart my laptop :p

    damn I <3 u guys!

soon as I get home from work I'll post about some tools for OC'ing the CPU with the PLL <3

(damn I checked this thread cause I was bored, didn't expect anything and suddenly all these posts !!)

working on this I'll get us all some nice upgrades :D

    SailCat

ps: I also managed to overclock my Geforce 8600m GT 512 with the newest Nvidia drivers and newest rivatuner.

Standard settings were 400/475 (core/mem speed) now I'm running 600/485 stable. When I run Unreal Tournament 3 I get 60 FPS and the GPU goes up to 85 Degrees Celsius without extra cooling.
When I put the laptop on my CoolerMaster Notepal Infinite it goes down to 77 degrees and runs stable.

Idle it's 62 without notepal and 54 degrees with <3

ps: yes our laptops are upgradable.

CPU and GPU can be replaced. thanks to MXM

    '...Please resign oneself it....'

    what does that mean??
    (damn I'm spamming.)

No, first off all, we need PDF of that thing, without it there will be no OC possible. I found some on IDT website, but not exactly for this model. Then I tried to write them, requesting PDF for study porpoises only, and then he asked me where I study and what project I am working on. So if you have any idea what study is possible with MoBo Clock Generator, it'll be a big help. :)

    U dutch?

if ur dutch like me say something like

" I study at the Technical University of Delft and I'm into CPU architecture and the reduction of heat as a result of different archtectures. Since we're on a low budget we need to use what we have.. and what we have is a half broken Compal IFL90 with a working CPU.
We want to overclock it to analyse the increase of heat and best ways to dissapate it as well as try out other methods.. this we'll compare with readings we're taking from a Laptop running an AMD CPU with different architecture... the results will be put on paper for our professor who's to decide if we can (after that) procede on a bigger budget to do more extensive and more serious testing.
    "

Of course you'd be named in the credits of our research and we'll keep you posted ;)

or well something like that <3

keep it as vague as possible and try not to use too many special words <3

    GL!!!

ps: sometimes the truth also runs great ;) just link him to this thread :D

I'll continue my own search for answers!

hello, happy to find one of the few threads about the ICS9LPRS365BGLF ..... after days of search and googling i understood that there was no way to find what is the pll ic of my toshiba a200 so i decided today to follow the only way ... take it apart... i was disapointed from the message from i read from setfsb however the thread gets more promising that there could be a change .. I would like to add that sisoft sandra, that has clock generator identification, allthough it can't detect the pll type, it indicates that the pll is programmable so i keep my hope still warm ....

Jop, mr. Abo also noticed, that it is programmable after all, but he didn't made it work untin now thought. It must be quite different from the other.

    You my try this beta:
    http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/download/test/setfsb20b18b.zip
thirst run diagnose after selecting PLL and then try to OC, I get almost appropriate clocks, but while adjusting they always jump back to 177 thought cpu-z doesn't show any changes.

    Hey Dirt..

I've been in contact with Abo from SETfsb and he send me a new test version.
I'm to run some diagnosis and stuff for him to complete the works and finish a working version for our PLL :p

So hang tight mate ;) before you know it we'll have a solution :d

Unfortunately new version doesn't work for me either. This wasn't the first beta he sends me. Good guy though, so much afford just to make us little OC nags happy. PDF would really speed up this process.

P.S. Abo told he has a PDF now, so I guess you ware write, perhaps we'll OC real soon after all :)

Atm it's pretty much Abo who decides who he sends his test versions and whom are allowed to test with them. I asked him if I could post it here, but he asked me not to. So u'll have to wait just like the others I'm afraid :(

    pin 4 - PCI2/TME I/O

3.3V PCI clock output / Trusted Mode Enable (TME) Latched Input. This pin is sampled on

    power-up as follows

0 = Overclocking of CPU and SRC Allowed

1 = Overclocking of CPU and SRC NOT allowed

After being sampled on power-up, this pin becomes a 3.3V PCI Output

Maybe the problem is to be found?

I write through the program the translator, therefore I am sorry for mistakes.
In datasheet it is written, that at start on 4 pin of PLL there is a command with a code 1 or 0, and after passage of a command from this leg leaves 3.3v on PCI. A command on a leg gives BIOS. I tried to trace which command passes, but could not, as pass starting bits plus a command plus stop bits, and to analyse them there is nothing.
And that I have written in the previous message is the quote from datasheet.

I hope something have not correctly understood in documentation and my fears will not prove to be true

Mine laptop is Acer 5920. Because of features of a design it is complex to reach up to PLL. It is necessary to try to disconnect the fourth leg to include an opportunity of overclocking. Or to unpack and correct BIOS. By the way it is necessary to look, this function in first versions BIOS is opened or not.

Wait, what C2D? 166x9? When you simply can do BSEL mod till FSB 200 for the start. Or even till FSB 266, then it'll be 2,4GHz, and that I think should be reachable with your processor.
The problem with us, that the closest step from 200 to 266, and with T7500 multiplier of 11 it come 2926MHz.

Just tried BSEL mode(T5250 1.5GHz). The FSB was perfectly started on 800MHz, and the multiplier has remained on 6x and has refused to change VID and FID. Attempt is not has gone right = ((

Status is we suspect there's a Hardware Cap on the CPU.
WHich can possibly be changed with a PIN setting.

Also Abo-SAn is working on a version of SETfsb that should help us out.

Just in case, you have to connect all,1 to Vcc and all 0 to Vss, other way it may not work at all or work improperly.
Everything should work fine if you do it that way, I pinmoded CeleronM 430 on HEL80 so, it came with FSB200 and even let me lower voltage by 0.1V! Though it may take some time till you find the write minimal voltage.

been out of the loop a bit here.

DIrt what's that about connecting? I've never been much into OC'ing by modding the hardware.... Could you explain in Laymen terms?

as for Chosin! we're hoping Abo-san from setFSB will fix us a version that actually runs soon <3

All you should do is to go directly for Intel's website and download processor specification PDF, for example C2D (Santa Rosa):
    ftp://download.intel.com/design/mobile/datashts/31674504.pdf
Then for voltage modification look in 3.3 Voltage and FSB control (BSEL) "3.6 FSB Frequency Select Signals (BSEL [2:0]).
So with those tables to achieve goal, you have to make sure that all appropriate VID's or BSEL's connected to appropriate signals.
    3 things to remember:
    1) L = 0 = Vss
    2) H = 1 = Vcc
    3) If pin is connected to Vcc inside of you processor and you'll connect it to Vss there will be no short connect or what it is called in English. I don't know why it really happens, but pin becomes L. Either the way it works.

If you find out what you VID settings are, you may just connect those pins that will differ.
And another find is that though there is no FSB 266 in the PDF, it must be, since PLL supports it. Infect those BSEL's are connected directly to it.

The similarities are to clear to ignore. :)
