I've had my laptop back from tech support a few weeks, and I've noticed some effects of overheating too. The plastic above the hard drive next to the touchpad is starting to warp a little. I've noticed the back of the LCD is warped as well. I'll check with a utility to see how hot everything is running. I don't have any other problems though, I guess I'm lucky on that one.

I stumbled upon this accidentally, and I HAVE A SOLUTION!
My Averatec 6130 started overheating after a year... And I don't have time to read the whole thread to see if someone else has a solution, but here mine is:
Be sure to have compressed air or an air compressor handy... Unscrew the bottom plate of the laptop (the one with the two fan gratings), and blow the hell out of the cpu fan. After a while, you will notice a lot of lint gets built up in those gratings in a short period of time. Be sure to clean out that metal grating that opens to the side. That collects a lot of lint. the dust isn't really a problem here, but lint loves collecting up in these places. After about 15-30 minutes of cleaning, wala, no more heating problem...
Now my problem is I bought an OEM "3rd party" (Liteon) power adapter that, after extended use, made my internal power supply on the laptop catch fire and my laptop is essentially useless now. (All the parts inside are useful though).. Just the power portion of the motherboard is fried I think. Anyone have a solution to that one besides buy a new motherboard? Didn't think so :-/. Lesson here: Just fork out the $70 or whatever dollars for an Averatec adapter. Save your laptop. -

You may have had a loose socket, the reason for the connection heating up. Uniwill's Service Manual has a complete parts spec if you want to do your own repair. The Socket can be had at Mouser Electonics.
If you run extra cooling fans off of the USB ports you will pull more power that what it was design for. And damage to usb chips and/or motherbard will accour.
