Did not expect this to happen (I do not play games and/or do anything intensive on this computer except multitasking Internet / Office / Music...) but it is. I will be cleaning the fan tomorrow morning, hoping for a quick fix. Meanwhile, any opinions on this:

(even if I did fix the overheating problem just by cleaning the fan, I am still considering this item in order to use the lap-top on my... lap)
My only question at the moment, I guess is:
Will this product block the underside fan (Hence chocking the notebook instead of acting as an heat sink)?
Can anyone comment / share experiences?
Regards,
S.

Really isn't necessary, simply cleaning the fan will do the trick.

like TC said...clean the vent. Someone just posted with a overheating issue here. Cleaning the vent and fan did the trick.
I've never used a cooling pad so i'm not going to comment on that -
I regularly clean the vent and fan, and I've NEVER had any heat issues. Seriously, all heat issues are caused by dust!

Cleaning the notebook every few months can avoid this problem. Dust, as TC03 said, can cause some very nasty thermla problems. If you leave cleaning off for a while, the dust can infect very small spaces, such as the fan, and fan performance may also decrease. Cleaning on a regular basis is the best way to avoid such problems.

Thanks everyone, but...
Even when the computer is not overheating I would rather not use
it on my lap as it is still very hot. Hence, I was wondering if
this passive cooling mat could be a solution.
I am aware that this product will likely block the underside fan. What
I am unaware of is: will this be a problem or will the iXoft be able
to dissipate heat sufficiently?
Cheers,

I don't blame you. Notebooks with GPUs can run warm and make it uncomfortable to use on your lap. Can't remember the last time I did actually use a laptop on my lap actually.
That product does look like it will block the underside fan. Perhaps a cooling pad or even a large rigid mousepad would work better for what you have in mind? -
So I bought one... It is good if you want to use it for an hour or two on your lap.

Yea, they work pretty well, but if its fabricy make sure it doesn't block off vents or it WILL overheat.
My Hel80 runs at 45c with the lid closed (i have it hooked to my ex. monitor)
