This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    PCI Express for averatec Notebooks?

    You know I was just thinking just know if Averatec are going to release a model of notebooks using the PCI Express interface.

    Probably not for a bit.

    It's going to burn a lot of vendors because they have invested tons of money in developing PCI based devices and PCIx requires a lot of work on the hardware side to make it go. The arch is similar and the software guys will enjoy being able to reuse some stuff, but the hardware is the key. You don't get speeds like that by software tweaks alone; the hardware has to be capable of it. PCI is mature and stable. Mfr can turn designs quickly and release products fast and cheap. PCIx isn't easy in the first place.

    Let's hope it turns out better than the RAMBUS fiasco...
