I recently purchased the Sharp AV18p and I'm having hardware recognition issues. I can boot windows through my disk drive but i cannot get the hard drive to boot. The hard drive cannot be recognized in bios and im wondering if it is a bios issue that is keeping my hard drive from recognizing or perhaps my motherboard is incapable of registering the hard drive. I've used different drives all of them were functional in other machines but could not even be recognized in the av18p.

Should i update the bios or reload the bios possibly?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

I know some laptop hard drives have a jumper set for master / slave / cable select. Check your hard drive and see if you have it what that jumper is set to. Most likely it should be on master or cable select. Also what size is your hard drive? I have a 60gb toshiba drive in my AV18 and it works fine.

If you can even find a BIOS update for the AV18. Sharp has zero support for their laptops online.

I haven't forgotten about you, just busy. I haven't backed up the BIOS yet but for information this is the BIOS version in my system: Phoenix Technologies LTD 6.00 1.19.00U 04/15/2003.

I was looking to see if there was ever an update since this but so far i've come up empty. First chance i get i'll attempt a backup with the tools I fond and let you know if i'm successful.
