Hello, i have a possibly dead model EL80. Is it possible that the bios would be locked and only accept a t7200 and no other cpu? (The seller listed that as the cpu that was in the laptop). Someone told me that the bios could be locked so you can't upgrade or downgrade the cpu. I've tried a t2050 and a socket m celeron, neither cpu can get it to boot up. please help me, i don't want to have been cheated and bought a dead laptop!!! =(. Any help is appreciated.

PS...if anyone lives in Miami or near, and has a t7200 i could try and test my laptop with, i'd be grateful!!! i know the odds are slim but figure i'd throw it out there.....=)

No the el80 doesnt have a locked bios. Is it completely dead or do you at least get the LEDs to turn on?

    The HEL80 should accept the following CPUs - T5500 (1.66GHz), T5600 (1.83GHz), T7200 (2.0GHz), T7400 (2.16GHz), & T7600 (2.33GHz)

It's completely dead. The only led light i ever saw is when the laptop is plugged in and the battery is plugged in, then a light shows up that the battery is charging, it's orange when charging and green when full.

If those are the only cpus that the laptop will take then that explains my problem! =)

I did assume that it would take any socket m processor, which is why i tried the t2050 and the celeron. Can anyone verify for sure what processors it takes, DLCARTIN, i appreciate the help, but are you 100% sure. I've already wasted a couple hundred dollars, so i'm at a situation where i either cut my losses or, go for broke and buy a third processor hoping for the best...!

Thanks so much!!! I got my fingers crossed that i was just choosing the wrong processor!!!

The first one i got was a t2050, which is not listed on the website you linked me to...
The second one i got was a Mobile Intel® Celeron® Processors 520. Also, NOT on the list.

Well, i started searching ebay for listed processors and ordered the most inexpensive one on the list which was the celeron m 410, there was a lucky for me buy it now auction on ebay, so it only will cost me a couple dollars. Fingers crossed and i'll report as soon as i get it in the mail and install it and find out if my poor laptop can be ALIVE!!!!!

Well guys and gals, looks like i got a lemon. The third cpu arrived today, and this was one listed on that webpage that dlcartin was kind enough to link me to. It still won't boot up or give me any indication of being alive. I'm currently disputing this through paypal and hope i can get a refund. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me in my terrible situation, i am trying to be optomistic and i think i will save up for a brand new barebones system from a reliable vendor like xoticpc =)
