When I went to place my laptop order the payment screen charges me for using my credit card - about £30. Is this a glitch or, if not, is there a way to avoid this payment?
-
Yeah, its hilarious. It's when the merchant (in this case, Zepto) passes through the cost that the credit card companies charge them for transactions (typically 1.5-2.5% I think). Zepto appear to pass virtually the whole cost onto the buyer, which would normally not be acceptable to me, but in this case...welcome to supply and demand!
If you're UK they don't take direct debit cards (Switch/Maestro) yet, which usually don't charge a fee, so you're stuck with using a credit card and the resulting fee. I certainly was, and asked about it, but got no love.

We need to know more details. Where are you buying it from?
I assume that the extra money must be a charge for using a credit card, in which case I don't think you should be asking how to avoid this payment, except using some other type of payment. -

adinu,
I was not seeking to defraud Zeptoand I understand that companies sometimes pass on their credit card costs to the customer. However they usually provide an option to pay by debit card and thereby avoid the charge.
And to clarify, the cost was applied when buying the laptop from Zepto directly. -
The charge has even rised a few pounds in the last few days

Is it so hard for someone at Zepto to sit down and make sure their english based websites are informative, spell checked, and correct in contract prices...
-
R911,
I agree - the UK website does not really ooze professionalism. However I am impressed with the way their reps monitor internet forums like this one and answer people's questions and concerns. I don't think you would get assistance like that on the Sony or Samsung forums. -
I appreciate all of what has just been said. Im going to try my hardest to sort these items out. What more information would you like to see on our Uk website.
-
Its not really a lack of information, but a slight lack of polish I think. The front page is excellent - very clean and professional. But when I came to input my credit card details the screen was oddly laid out with the boxes strangely arranged. It may have been my browser (Firefox), but this is not what one hopes to see at this critical stage of buying. Also, despite placing my order on Friday evening I have yet to receive a confirmation EMail which I regard as quite unusual for an internet ordering site. There are also some odd/missing links - I will have a look around and report any I find.
Incidentally your respnse to this issue only backs up what I said in the second part of my previous post - thank you. -
Also I mentioned this a while back and I haven't checked within the last few days, but I mentioned that accessories such as the TV Tuner for the 6615 were not present on the selection thing, whereas they were on the DK site. Not sure if this has changed for the 6625 though.
But yeah, polish is mainly what's needed, and checking that everything is the same as on the Danish website.
Also it might be neat to have the laptops on the laptop choosing page be in order of how good they are, last time I checked it had the rubbish ones with integrated graphics at the top, and the good ones half way down.
Oh and spellings too. Some things are fake-English like Batteri or something I think, and other words are joined together like you do in Danish, but that's wrong in English. Like Shoppingcart. -
I find it very strange that a company who makes computers for a living doesn't even make sure their website is working properly in all available web browsers and not just IE.
Besides that there's an incredible amount of errors and typos at the different Zepto websites and contradicting information and options. A couple of days ago I phoned the Danish Zepto support to tell them about a handful of errors in the configuration and specifications for 6625WD, in less than 5 minutes I found a lot of errors in the configuration options and specifications, both on the Danish and English websites. Some errors has still not been changed. But the errros on the Danish and English websites were different so it seems nobody making the Danish and English websites communicate with each other. When you actually get them to change an error on the website, it's only changed in one langauge version and other language versions keeps the same error.
For example on the English website I saw and option to chose 6 cell + 12 cell battery for 6625WD, so I asked the Danish support howcome this option wasn't available on the Danish site. He was very suprised this option was avaible on the Emnglish site because 6625WD has never been tested and approved to use with the 12 cell battery.
There was many other errors in the ordering options just for this one model. It shoudln't be that hard to double check things before throwing all kind of mistakes on the website?
Is it just because you wanted to be the first manufacturer to have a Santa Rosa based PC for sale, no matter what? Although there's still 20+ days before you can actually get one, and god knows how many times the ordering options will be changed within the next 20 days on the different language versions.
Doesn't anyone verify anything before you throw it at your website?
If was put off a bit about all the mistkes at the website, and couldn't help wondering if the Zepto notebooks has as low quality control as their websites and made in the same hurry - I don't hope so.
Another thing I find annoying is that every time you visit the Zepto websites it shows all prices without VAT and you have to click every single time you visit the site to change it to include VAT. It would be much nicer if it remembered the setting from last time you visited with a cookie or something or at least showed prices both excluding and including VAT. -
you can pay in advance without a cost if you go through the international site. worst case i guess you can call then and tell them what you want (included payment in advance)
-
Thanks -
I do like the active response Zepto is giving to various people, but it would probably be better if the websites themselves made most of the questions redundand, meaning the information on them is consistent and complete.
I'm not putt of though, just giving my thoughts. -
You can only order from the global website if your country isnt listed under having its own website. I can only speak for the UK customers but there is no way of getting round this charge at the moment and we are looking to reduce it very soon.

Thanks for all your info PORTABLE

I want to buy a Zepto Laptop and want to spend about £1000 in doing so. But I do not own a credit card. After going to the bank, I have found out that because I am a student I can only get a credit card with a £500 limit. I have well over £1000 saved up in my account to spend.
There must be someway I can buy a laptop.... is there?
If not, I feel forced to go straight to Sony or Dell and hand over the money to them.
Why can't I buy a Zepto!? -
The international site still doesn't have Intel N as an option for 6224. Just ABG and Zepto N
-
TS2Master you could always pay money onto your credit card before you make the purchase. If you paid £500 into your Credit card account you would be able to spend £1000 on it. I used to do this when i was a student and the only gave me £300 credit, also i think doing this will get your limit increased quicker aswell.
-
Also Credit cards like BarclayCard give you free insurance on purchases over
£100.

So bay the extra surcharge, your getting a great Lapdog. -

Thanks timjones. -
Keizafk. The website is being updated bit by bit as I go through and find an error. Any issue that you come accross I will try to resolve. I want to make sure they is NO danish on the UK site which was a problem in the review and notebooks tests page. Now corrected
-
i placed an order on the UK site a week ago and the money was taken out of my account, now the money has been put back in?? I paid with a visa card like it says but it was a debit card. Can you only pay by credit card? I want a 6625wd but looks like there is no way to pay for it, will probably have to get a different laptop...
-
Proxy , I have sent you an email. We can sort this problem out for you, please accept our apologies for this.

Hello, I am in exactly the same situation as TS2Master, I have a graduate account and have a limit of £500, but mate what the bank failed to tell you is that you can put extra money into your credit card account so for example, you already have your £500, you can then transfer £500 from another account into that account and you will then be able to buy stuff with a value of £1000 its not all bad. But I do agree Zepto NEED to start taking Debit Cards Soon.
Problems with website:
The radio boxes used dont allow the user to unselect items, for example at one stage i was looking at the budget sped of the 6224W and found that a Logitech mouse was pre selected, because of the use of radio boxes I could not unselect it and was forced to get a mouse with the laptop, whats that all about.
It also seems strange how for a long period I was unable to purchase the medium sized Zepto sleeve with a medium sized notebook, there was only the option for a large, although the medium sized sleeve was in stock and available to order separately.
Why is there so many memory options for the 6214W but not for the 6224W. The chipsets and memory they support are the same so you might as well provide the same options, there is no option for single or dual channel configurations, no option for 512mb, and no option for different memory speeds the only memory speed that is available is 800mhz and the Santa Rosa only supports 667mhz memory anyway.
I would say consistency is the main problem with the UK Zepto website, why do the configuration options change so drastically for each notebook. I feel that wide range of configurable options for Zepto notebooks really makes Zepto stand out from the crowd, more choices and options than Dell, Apple etc.
The website looks nice but doesnt work so well and isnt consistent, its almost like theyve got great graphics designers to design it, but then crap programmers to code it and crap editors/administrators to look after it
