Hi, I bought this laptop is branded by a uk company called hi-grade.
it has an celeron-m 1.6 420 processor inside and i want to upgade it to an pentium-m at some time.
the laptop is actually made by a company called mitac, it`s a model 8615 chasse.
it states in the PDF below only celeron processors.
I know it might be something to do with the voltage, but i have read that the newer Pentium-m can run on a lower voltage.
http://www.mitac-ind.de/data/8615_external_spec.pdf
does anybody know.
thank you.
John.

That notebook cannot support Pentium M because the processer uses a different socket to the Celeron 400 series. The Celeron in specified system, is based on Yonah, and therefore has a Core Duo/Core 2 Duo socket. It appears there is very little information on this chipset, and its not confirmed if it supports Core Duo/Core 2 Duo.
Even is it does support Core Duo/Core 2 Duo, it will require a BIOS update, which the manufacturer probably won't release, because they don't currently install the system with Core Duo/Core 2 Duo. It is possible, however, a system using the same motherboard, has Core Duo/Core 2 Duo sinstalled on it, and there may be a BIO for it.
Pentium-m compatible ???????????
