So here's the story....
I have a Philips Freevents X56 which is actually just a rebranded Twinhead H12Y. I decided (for no good reason) to update the BIOS. Philips themselves do not provide driver/BIOS updates and downloads so I decided to download the latest offering from Twinhead (having read all over the web that they are the same machine). After flashing with this BIOS I now get a 'BIOS Checksum Bad' message.
I am unable to Boot beyond this stage. I have contacted Twinhead who have sent me an older 'generic' BIOS, I have flashed this using the ami BIOS recovery method (CTRL+HOME keys). The flash was successful however I still receive the same message.
I have come to the conclusion that I should try and flash back the original BIOS that was on the notebook. This is where I need you other X56 owners, if you also own a Philips Freevents X56 I would appreciate it if you could backup or dump your existing BIOS.
If you dont know how to do it dont worry its quite simple and I can walk you through it.
Your help would be really appreciated.

The Philips notebooks have nothing in common with the Philips electronics company except the name. They are one of the marketing brands of the DSG group. The support site is here.

Another problem could be a corrupt source or corrupting step in the process. Getting a checksum verified file would be helpful. If you provide a link, I or someone could provide a checksum.
Unfortunately, I don't have access to your specific version, but if you can't locate it, you might try the BIOS discussed here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=157979
FYI, I checked the file: R1.09.BIN, 512 KB (524,288 bytes), MD5: CE1973324F541DF6C4E82538AADF9C3B (please confirm or report error) -
booted to dos
flashed the BIOS avaliable on the twinhead.com support site named H12YT_BIOS_R1.08.exe using the included .bat file (It seemed like the newest avaliable for the H12Y)
I cant remember exactly what it said on screen afterwards but it seemed to indicate everything was successfull
Rebooted the laptop, from the first boot onwards 'Checksum Bad' message
I did not think to try the recovery method with this version. I then contacted Twinhead, the person who responded seemed very helpfull. They sent me a version called H12Y106.ROM. This is the version I flashed using the recovery method.
I can try and upload them both somewhere if you like?
Sorry but I dont know what you would like me to do with this 'FYI, I checked the file: R1.09.BIN, 512 KB (524,288 bytes), MD5: CE1973324F541DF6C4E82538AADF9C3B (please confirm or report error)'
What do I need to check at my end?
I notice you say to try and use R1.09, do you not think that only the original Philips BIOS will work?
Thanks for your help. -
