I just ordered a 1050 from Amazon. It was $1150 before 2 $50 rebates, plus no tax for me, signed up for free 3 months of Amazon Prime and got free 2 day shipping.

    rebates:

This rebate is good at a number of retailers, in case you don't like Amazon. But the first one is Amazon only. The others may have additional rebates too, but I didn't check.

This laptop is pretty old now and I hear new models of this ultraportable may out soon, but once in a while I still see others still shopping for one so I thought I'd share.

You've got no idea what you're talking about. What makes you think this is a crappy proc? This is a 1.1 ULV, even the top of the line is only 100 mhz faster at 1.2. The goal of this proc is to give the user the maximum battery usage. Anyone buying a laptop with an ULV is not looking to play games or do other cpu intensive tasks.

Exactly, in fact, its actually an amazing processor. Of course, if you're doing gaming or other intensive tasks, this processor is not for you, but it can handle just about everything else, which is amazing.
It will run at least as fast as a 2.4 ghz Pentium 4 with much, much less heat, fan noise and better battery life. Its a great processor for most users. It can do just about anything except for gaming and other intensive tasks.
The 1.0 ghz Pentium M ULV I had in my old ultraportable ran circles around my old desktop's Pentium 4 1.7 ghz and ran almost completely silent whereas I swear the fan always ran in my old desktop, never ever ever stopped.

I second rahulnirmal concerning the 1.1GHz ULV processor. :)

I third it! ULV processors are superb! Great batt life and performance per clock cycle! :D Even the ULV Celerons are great even though it only support CPU throttling and not Intel Enhanced SpeedStep. :)

Maybe we can help convince you? :)
Anyways, I find the Pentium M ULV processors to be one of the best processors I have ever had the pleasure of using. Amazing performance, battery life and low heat and fan noise. I am also amazed by what types of computers can be built thanks to this processor such as the new Toshiba Libretto and Sony Vaio U series for example.

Appearently ULV PMs rival the Pentium 4m 2.4 I used to have. That's good enough to tell me its not slouch.

Though I've asked it already elsewhere,
here I most likely can get an answer: do you know guys what are good sleeves for Averatec 1050 and other 10" (widescreen) notebooks?

WHAT!? Hell with intel....I got 2.8 p4 with hyperthread on my laptop (see sig). No way can a pentium M match with a p4 or can it?

Oh **** yes it can. My 2.0 ghz Pentium M will run as fast or faster than a 3.8 ghz Pentium 4 and consume less heat and give me more battery life. Only downside is the cost.

    I'd give a more conservative estimation 3.8 --> 3.0. :)

Nah, not that convervative ivar, look at the processor guide posted here, they said a 1.6 or 1.73 ghz Pentium M will perform as fast as a 3.0 ghz Pentium 4.

yes, Pentium M will match speed of Pentium 4. Generally, It depends on what you use it for too. Such as for Office Works, Applications, software stuff Pentium M will perform better than Pentium 4. For Very much Video Editing, all digital work Pentium 4 will do slightly better, but If I have choice and Few Extra Bucks, I will pick Pentim M For LAPTOPS as it will match speed and run much cooler than Pentium 4. For Desktop Pentium 4 will be good choice.

My laptop with 2GHz PM755 is on par with P4 3.0-3.2 in Sandra Benchmarks.
