My Hel80 is plagued with BSODs, everytime I play a game, random times it gives me the blue screen error and restarts. At times when I'm playing a video it happens. Whats going on and how do I check whats causing the problem? I recently installed a new HDD because of the earlier one had failed. Could this be causing the problem?
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. Actually, before the HDD replacement, I was running Vista but never had a BSOD. whats going on?

I had a similar issue with BSOD's. One day out of nowhere I was watching a video and it crashed, and kept crashing for frequently through the day until it was almost impossible for me to even research the issue. For me, it turned out to be one of my ram modules, which I had to RMA. You should try to run MEMtest if you can and definitely a HDD diagnostic. There are 'boot cds' you can find on the internet, which are basically bootable packages for CDs' or USB that have lots of useful utilities for computer crises such as this one.

is this fixable? This laptop barely 6 months old too.. first the HDD now this? what a piece of crap

edit: ok, what i did was remove the ram, i tried to clean the settled dust with a blow or two and popped it back in place. I ran the test again and no errors have popped up. I guess it was loose? lol I hope its fixed. Only time will tell.

If it was just some dust or something then you got verrrry lucky. I had to RMA mine and had to spend a few weeks operating on 1stick (1GB) of RAM. However, I'm glad that helped. The RAM crapping out isn't the reseller's or the computer manufacturer's fault necessarily, blame the manufacturer of the RAM.

You may want to let your reseller know about the problem anyway. That way if there are problems with your RAM in the future, they at least will know about this earlier occurrence.

Yes, ram that isn't seated properly will give BSODs and random reboots. Glad you were able to resolve your issue.
