    Hi

Just wondering if anyone coulde help me along the way. I need to replace the battery for an old laptop dating back to around 2000 and cannot find a compatible battery because noone seems to know, given the info I have, what battery would be compatible.
The notebook was supplied by a company in the mid west and carries the name NOTEBOOK with model Number 8500P. I remember it was called a Cheetah. And was purchased around 2000 and was originally supplied with windows 2000 OS. Here are the specs:

Intel Pentium III 501 Mhz 256 MB RAM
    Video ATI WDM Bt829
Intel(r) 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
Texas Instruiments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Controller
    Torisan DVD-ROM DRD-U624
Display Adapters Rage LT PRO AGP 2X
    Linksys USB 2.o Network Adapter
    MAC Bridge Miniport

The laptop has a black case and could be supplied with either two hard drives installed or a floppy disk and a single hardrive. It has a dvd , twin USB ports and a single IEEE1394 plus video, sound and midi ports. It was quite a powerful beqst at that time.

The battery is marked Li-Ion Model no 3001S DC 10.8V 7500mAh with a number 87-8508S-42A

On the undertside is printed in white NOTEBOOK COMPUTER Model No: 8500P

I remember the guy who I bought it from was into driving a porsche. The company had a web site called something like pcnotebook/s.com but I believe they must have gone out of business.

I need to replace the battery!!! I still use this system from time to time!

Are there no details in your system information? That could give you an exact model number I expect.
There was a program that took all the details from computer, I think its called Hijack this, or something to that effect

What program do you run that can't be transferred to a newer system? Can't you run it plugged in if it's only "time to time"? Even if you're able to find the correct replacement battery, it's likely to be costly. Why spend $100-200 to get an ancient laptop going, when you can spend less than $500 for a brand new one, new battery included, or even a $300-400 ATOM netbook.

If you really must, and can't find the replacement, some battery companies will take existing power packs and fit them with new cells. Google them if you're really intent on getting this old laptop portable.

(this is just one example from a company that advertised on google, I don't know anything about them, never used them, and am not recommending them: "batteryrebuild.com/laptops/Sager/87-85V8S-42H.phtml")

BTW, you might want to see if you get lucky by battery model: "images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&q=3001S+battery&btnG=Search+Images"

Henry it looks as though you have found it...specifications check out -- however it does not say China on the base but does say Taiwan which is often used euphemism for China at that time!

I tried to find a piccy on the site but could not..
The bios has SystemSoft SCU for intel 440BX/440ZX chipset Bios Version is 1.00.03 10/22/97

The question is who is likely to have a battery for this??

Ha it is not about money <chuckles> I just want to keep this going. It is strong reliable and built like a tank _ which suits where I go and what I do -- besides I am fond of the old beast!!!

I have one of the latest laptops and wouldn't dare to sit down in the mud with it!!! Fashion accessories have their place <chuckles>
