I am conflicted between the Averatec 6130HS-20 and the Averactec 5400 series laptop I purchased from Walmart.

The 5400 has a AMD Athalon (Opteron?) Dublin 2800+ processor, 15" TFT, DVD +/- Burner, 40G HD, 512 MB Ram, Integrated Video upto 64MB, etc.
    Price: $998 (USD)

The 6130HS-20 has a P4/3.0Ghz, Hyperthreading CPU, 60G HD, 512 MB RAM, 15.4" WXGA, DVD +/- Burner, Dedicated 64MB ATI Radeon Video, etc.
    Price: $1248 (USD)

I don't know why but I feel the Athalon runs slightly faster and cooler than the P4 machine.
I am not into gaming at all and will only use the laptop for mainly programming and presentations through an INfocus X2 projector.
At the same time I can afford the $250+ difference between the laptops if I am recommended the 6130HS-20 unit but will also appreciate the savings if the 5400 is advised.
Which of the two laptops would you recommend and why and also, which laptop can handle multi-tasking better since both advertise it?
(What is an Opteron, a 64 bit processor?)
    Thanks!

They'll multi task the same and handle all your requirements, so let's get past that. The core consideration, in my view, is the display. I love widescreens and won't buy anything else. The extra space to the sides is important to me as much with productivity apps as it is with watching DVDs. That alone would be enough to get me to jump. When you factor in the dedicated RAM extra HDD space and a potentially faster processor...I think the value is there. The 6130 is a very nice machine for the dollar.

If you are only going ot use for Presentation and Programming, i suggest another Averatec Laptop. the 3220H series would b perfect for you.

    Specs:
    AMD Mobile 2000+ (LV) 1.53GHZ
    256 RAM
    VIA Unicrome 64mb Graphic card
    dvd/cd-/+rw
    12.1 screen
    Windows XP Home
    40 GIG harddrive

It is fast enough for games too, well not those high graphic games, but certainly good enough for games such as:

    Warcraft 3,
    Rise of Nations,
    Gunbound,
    ETC

Those are the only games i play so i know it works perfectly. It is a fast computer too. I do everything with it. If you compare this to your other two choices, this is a much better one, because the price is 999.99 and it is so much lighter and smaller. Presentation often require alot of moving around. I know i like it because i move from one class room to another. It is only 4.2 lb, dont say that 2 extra lb doesn't matter. It does. YOu will feel the burden.

So in conclusion i suggest you get this machine, 3220H from averatec, have i mentioned that hte battery life is around 3 - 3.5 hours, compare to those two that which only last around 2 hours. So get this.

Thank me later when u get it.
