My experience with their repair dept is HORRIBLE. Just wondering how many others have gotten / are getting the shaft from them.
So Cal Better Business Bureau has hundreds of complaints about them.
What they have done with (to!) me borders on FRAUD.
Just curious. Let me know.
Thanks.

PS: My 'under warrantee' repair was logged into their facility on Dec 26, 2007 -- with the assurance it would take 7-10 business days to repair. Here it is, almost four months later -- still no laptop. Also, no letters from them apologizing, making any offers, etc. NOTHING.
Essentially, they have STOLEN my laptop.
My next step is writing to the Attorney General. -
Well, any of us averatec owners that have had warranty from hell problems with them could probably write volumes about how not to run a company from a customer service perspective.
This has been an ongoing issue for many, many months. To put it mildly, don't ever expect to hear anything remotely resembling communication from the company. There has to be a reason why virtually every big box retailer and most on-line retailers have dropped them like a bad habit.
My problem started virtually 3 months before the end of my 1 year warranty. My 7100 developed a vertical line from top to bottom that became worse over time. Before the demise of the old Averatec unofficial forum there were at least 10-15 of us with exactly the same problem. Anyway, to make a long story short, I finally figured I better get this turkey back to them before my warranty is gone. Especially with finding a that replacement LCD is nearly $400.
OK, off it goes. Received by Averatec's warranty center in early October, 2007. Serviced within 7 days. Sounds great, huh? Except their so-called status web site didn't mention what was found or when I might expect it back. Waited another week and then finally called. Everything was on this site except what was really wrong. It was the LCD and was defective. Timeframe? Totally unknown. Backordered part from China. Couldn't tell me anything. Weeks and weeks calling. Nope, don't know. Can't even begin to tell you if or when we'll get the parts. The last time I heard that crap response I was livid. In January, 2008.
I decided anything I could do to them was fair game. Discovered the CEO, COO and Sales Manager's email addresses. Emailed them and stated what I was going to do if I didn't get an update. Surprise? Absolutely no response.
Went to work. Got ahold of the BBB Southland. Laid it there, Also, lodged a complaint with Cal's Attorney General. Again, never heard from Averatec but finally the BBB sent me a copy of Averatec's response to them saying that the LCDs magically appeared and my unit took priority to be fixed and shipped next day air. Yep, it was on both accounts. Also got a call from Cal's Att Gen. They're investigating them.
The old adage that "The squeaky wheel gets the oil" is absolute with Averatec. My suggestion is squeak and then squeak again.
I'll be glad to help you further if you wish.

Thanks. How about posting those names + email addresses. Is the president of the company Tae Cho?
How about starting a letter writing campaign -- flooding their (real) mailbox with angry letters?
I'm sending one letter/day for the next 20 days.
Address is:
1231 E Dyer Rd
Suite 150
Santa Ana, CA 92705
I think the Cal AG should shut them down. They are engaging in FRAUD, imo.
That's F-R-A-U-D. Possible JAIL TIME.
I hope so. -
They could easily mitigate some of the consumer FURY simply be having more of a "holy crap, we're letting our customers down" attitude -- rather than the attitude they DO have, which is "who cares -- F. 'em."
They could send out letters to all customers (read: suckers) whom they are srewing over, saying "we're sorry about this, here's a starbucks gift card" or SOMETHING -- send letters out every 10-days, apologizing + encloding some kind of TRINKET or offer or *something* to show they are sorry and they are ON THE CASE!
Instead, they hide under their desk and rearrange the phone system so no real person answers the phone.
They will be out of business soon, I predict.
Sales will disappear and/or they will be FORCED out of business by the AUTHORITIES! -
OK, you want 'em you got 'em. I will tell you that they won't respond. They are good though as I've never had them come back as undeliverable. You are far better off pursuing the BBB Southland group and the Att. Gen of Cal. They've had so many complaints they've got to be sick of them by now. However, this seems like the only vehicle they respond to.
Here goes except for the ability of web crawlers to get the addys:
sshahbazi at averatec.com - COO - name Saeed Shahbazi
byoon at averatec.com - CEO - Brian Yoon
jahn at averatec.com - national sales manager - Joan Ahn
But have never gotten a response from them. Good luck and remember, BBB is your best avenue.

I noticed my cooling fan on my new Averatec 7100 series ran all the time. I called the tech line and talked to some one who told me there was dirt inside my computer. I told them the computer was brand spanking new! After I told her this she seemed not to care and insisted this was the problem. I said I would inspect the computer further and hung up. I took the cover off the back side and it was a clean as a whistle! This was shocking to me because there was nothing logical, or technical about her response. Fortunately I found out thanks to this forum that there was no problem and this was normal. This computer has given me not one problem. I purchased an extended warranty in 01/08 and three months later after several calls and emails to the sales department I received a refund in the mail saying my application for the warranty was denied.
There it is. -
Positive flip side to this bad company:
I sent in a 2370 on 12/03/07, they logged it in 12/17/07, looked at on 12/21/07 saying that the motherboard was bad. A month went by, no parts, no parts....called to check (website was down), part was recieved, but was bad....went through that 2 more times. Turns out that they closed the Texas repair facility and sent my lappy to Cali. Took a month to get there - must have walked it there or something....anyway....gets to Cali facility, told that it was on the repair room floor. Needed a motherboard (duh), waited on part, part recieved, bad. Now, being a computer tech, I know that if I have 4 motherboards bad when replacing something, there's something else wrong. I was really nice to the lady on the phone, asked that since it had been 6 months they had my laptop if they could just replace it with another one. Got a call (yeah, really - they called me!) on 5/6/08 saying that they would replace it with a brand spanking new 2575 model, and that it had vista and no modem, was that OK? shoot yeah.....almost 6 months no laptop....should ship friday...we'll see....
maybe they're changing their ways? maybe i'm lucky....who knows
henry
EDIT: Its 5/12/08, and i'm now holding a brand spankin new 2575 series lappy...guess waiting 6 months, calling every 2 weeks makes some difference???? now if only this was the original 2 week turn around discussed w/ those guys.....meh....this is my last averatec for sure.... -

My Averatec was sent in repair twice. The laptop mysterious stopped working. I sent in the repair and they returned my laptop promptly. The only downside is that they scratched up the bottom of the laptop pretty badly (what the hell were they doing?). I asked what they did, and the guy said they replaced the motherboard. All in all a good experience except that I had to pay for shipping.
A month later, the laptop died and I sent it in again. This time, they held it for over 2 months. Calls to tech support fall on deaf ear. I am told that they are waiting for parts and they won't extend my warranty for the waiting period. I told them they were being unreasonable. They told me that they can sent back the broken laptop if I want.
I contacted the better business bureau and they eventually got the parts from somewhere else, repair it and sent it back. This time, they lost a screw, but nothing critical.
Next, I tried to install Vista on it and it ran at half the speed and closing the laptop lip crash the machine. From my research, it appears that they have an older version of the BIOS and need a new version. I am told by tech support that:
1. They don't have a newer version of the BIOS because the manufacturer did not have a new version. This is untrue since Everex has an identical machine and has a later BIOS.
2. They don't support Vista even if the machine is "Vista Capable".
3. There is no problem with Vista, never mind what I am seeing and various people have called in with the same problem. If I don't believe in the reality of this, then this is my problem (his exact words).
After this, I install the Everex BIOS and fixed the problem that Averatec said didn't exist, and prompt vowed never to buy another Averatec again as long as I live.
