Running vista home Premum on 6625WD and when in windows and setting the power options to turn the screen off after 5 mins, it just never seems to go off. The only place i can get it to go off is on the login screen after locking the machine etc. I have nothing runing apart from zone alarm and avast andcannot understand what is going on. Any thoughts or comments would be appriciated

I know this will sound a dumb question, but...

By any chance have you put that power option "when on batteries" and your notebook is on AC power? Or the reverse?

another dumb question here but :

Do you have an external optical/lazer mouse hooked up ?
Some mice a so sensitive that they detect desk vibrations (coming from fans or external HDDs) as movement...therefore preventing the PC from starting the screensaver or turning the screen off.

Simon may be up to something here. I might add that not only sensitive mice do that, but also old mice might do as well. I have a mouse which I've been using for about three years now and sometimes my cursor "shakes" even when I'm not touching it.

In a related matter, make sure you use a proper mousepad. If you use a reflective surface (e.g. glass) your mouse will sometimes go crazy. But you would probably notice that.

Interesting. I'm sure that some notebooks that I have used ignored the mouse and needed keyboard activity to keep the display from going off.
