I have an Averatec 6130. The battery died about a year ago, so I have been using AC power. I bought a battery off Ebay and installed it. The computer dies as soon as the AC adaptor is unpluged. The battery is at 100% and does not show it is charging. This is the same problem that I had with my old battery. Loss of all power when AC is disconnecter. The battery from Ebay was listed as new. Could my problem be in the computer itself, power supply or the battery. Any way to test this?
Thanks, tkmabe

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery. Interesting article on maintaining, storage, internal construction and lifespan plus battery internal and external regulation. I found out one thing on that site. These are not just a couple of dry cells in a black case; they are a complicated power generating instrument.
1. A new battery off of Ebay does not mean a new battery!
2. When you remove the AC and the computer fails you have either a bad battery or the circuit from battery to the computer has failed.
3. If it is in the computer it must be in a switch (mechanical or electronic) that allows the battery to supply the power when the AC is off.
4. If you don't have an electronic schematic of the computer you will find it difficult to trouble shoot and if you do find it you may not have the tools or parts to fix it.
5. I imagine the power supply is in the motherboard. If the problem is in power circuit, and we don't know if it is, there is a company that advertises on Ebay to repair motherboards, I would give them a call after I found out the cost of a new mother board and make a decision from there. I have found that with computers, you don't repair them. You replace boards and parts. Seems like everything either plugs in or screws in!
Hope I have helped

Thanks for the info. I have since been able to get the computer to run on the battery for a minute, but it will not take a charge so I think I got a bad battery.

I was looking at the Internet and found a site where they rebuild batteries at a lower cost than a new one. You might want to do a search for battery rebuilders and save a few bucks. They seem to have good references and guaranty their work. I would give you the site URL, but I didn't mark it

P.S. Let us all know how things work out. -
I also bought a "new" one from a vendor on EBay. This vendor was in China, but the price was good even with the shipping so I thought I would take a chance. It turned out to be just as bad a buy. I contacted four others who
bought from this vendor and they had the same experience - the batteries didnt last at all.
