I received my new laptop yesterday and so far everything is great. I should be posting a review as soon as i sort things out.

My first question is nero didn't come pre-loaded, but a cd came with the system and it apparently isn't compatible with vista, is their something around this ? The system is from powernotebooks.com .

The second question is for me to use the fingerprint reader do i need to install the omnipass software ? I believe the system came installed with its drivers but not its software ?

As far as the bios is concerned which one is the latest for this system ?

My last question for those who have this system , the buttons on the top right of the system , i understand they control the camera but it seems they have lights inside them but for some reason they dont come on no matter what i try, any ideas aon what i can do.

    thanks guys

Not sure about Nero.. call powernotebooks, they have domestic 24/7 tech support and can help you with this. If the driver is installed for omnipass, then the software should be there somewhere. Again, call their support line, thats what it is for :p All the downloadable goodies that PNB will point you to for the bios upgrades are here: http://www.bizcom-us.com/support/

The buttons on the top I'm assuming are just generic media keys and/or programming function keys like on the HEL80, I'm not sure on this though and I can't see the keys well enough on PNB's site to address LED's in them. The only button on the HEL80 with an LED inside is the power button.

Like i said, give them a phone call, they are friendly and prompt. Try to ignore your past tech-support dis-likes, they actually do a pretty good job at supporting their customers rather then giving them the run around. :D

Definitely give Powernotebooks tech support a call. They are very good and will treat you right.

As for the Vista, was it pre-installed for you by PNB? If so, I would guess that they have the drivers in there for you already. If that's the case, it should be working already.

But if you installed Vista yourself, you will need to install all of the drivers on that CD. And Vista may not work well with them all--so you will have to look for some updated ones. There are a number of threads about that here in the Compal forum that you can check out for more on that.

Good luck and welcome to the Compal forum!

Vista came preloaded on my system. As far as nero being there it isnt and inserting the CD just says the software you are trying to install isnt compatible.

I tried contacting the tech sopport for the Lights/media buttons issue, and they said they dont have a working laptop model in front of them to address the problem.

I just emailed ron my system advisor at pnb, and i guess we will see what happens.

Unfortunately Vista still needs to be put through its paces, so be patient with everything coming together for that OS. You could revert to XP in the meantime if you'd like a smoother experience.

Ron will get you what you need as soon as they have it themselves.
