QUANTA NL5A - feedback needed

Hi all,

Was looking for a laptop and found Quanta NL5A on the local resellers website:

Was wondering if anyone has any feedback on this model? Any photos of the insides maybe?
I've read about Quanta and know that they are one of the biggest manufacturers of the laptops, however I've discovered them only today.
No info on google (only links to other online-stores with same pic's;
Nothing on youtube.

Did you manage to find some reviews for similar Quanta products, by chance?

The only thing I've found so far is that the same laptop is named Illgear Laguna. There is one review of it on the YouTube. There is also one picture of the internals online. You'll find everything once you Google its name.
However nothing more specific available as well as no temperatures measured under cpu and gpu load.
Please let me know if you find anything else and probably we will get the whole picture soon

Hi, I'm also interested in this laptop, however, there is one thing that seriously concerns me - CPU temperatures. According to review that @darnok44 posted above (thank you for that, I've been searching for some review for a long time), CPU hits 84°C during gaming and 95°C under full load on both CPU and GPU simultaneously. Those temperatures are just way too high and not acceptable. I noticed that in the review model the CPU was using only one heatpipe that was connected to only one fan (picture 1). However, Illegear Laguna (basically the same laptop; picture 2) is using two heatpipes that connect the CPU to both fans. I believe that it will significantly improve the cooling of CPU. I found that pcspecialist.co.uk is probably the only manufacturer/reseller here in UK that builds these laptops but they told me that they use only single heatpipe for CPU.

Therefore, does anyone know any other company (ideally within Europe) that builds this laptop and uses two heatpipes, or at least whether it's possible to buy the two-heatpipe heatsink separately and install it on my own?

It looks like for me that version with gtx1070 use beefier heatsink. If You looks closely You see that on the second photo are two more GDDR5 chips then on the first one. So first one is with 6GB gtx1060 and second one with 8GB gtx1070. Thank you for reply, @darnok44, I think you are right. It seems that they use them based on GPU model. I'm planning to buy this laptop for my wife, so GTX 1060 should be sufficient, however, I'd still like to swap that heatsink for better one. I did similar swap on my Clevo P870DM2, where I changed original heatsink for vapor chamber one and it dropped temperatures on GPU by about 20°C, so it was well worth it (now getting about 63-65°C @ 100% load and 80% fan speed with GTX 1080).

I took a look at the link you provided, but it seems you have to be either a company or education institution in order to be able to register and see stock and prices. Do you have any other idea where to buy it from?

 

Honestly, that was only place I could find at the moment where they have spare parts for this model, sorry.

 

I don't think it is necessary to replace the heatsink, but you need to replace the standard thermal paste. We got 70-75 degrees for the GPU (GTX 1070) and around 80 degrees for the CPU (7700HQ) during 3DMark Firestrike (13900-14000 score).
At the moment we only have the GTX 1060 version in stock. Let me know if there are any questions.

The 'strange' thing is that the CPU is on the left side of the mainboard and the GPU on the right side. Does anybody know why this differs from Clevo and MSI?
