Something has been bothering me lately about my choice in the WSXGA+ resolution I ordered with my IFL90.
I have been a PC gamer for years and hardly ever play games on native resolution on my monitor, although I am guessing this is extremly different with a laptop.
Most games I play i crank down to 1024x768 for optimum performance anyway..
So My question is.. If I get the WSXGA+ for the large resolution and picture quality.. Not to mention the awesome work space, will I really be sacrificing as much power as alot of people on this forum say I will?
I don't ever plan to play a game on WSXGA+ settings. Nor would I plan to play on WXGA+ if I had that...
What kind of performance loss are we talking about when you leave native resolution?
I ordered mine with specs all featured in my sig.
And btw.. I'm not changing my configuration no matter what, Matte ftw!
I am just extremely curious about my performance vs other laptops with say, WXGA+ and both ran a game on 1024x768.

I'm in the same boat man. I ordered mine with the WSXGA a while back on the basis of the 512 MB on the video card. Guess I didn't know all this stuff about native resolution etc... first LCD screen... I'm just as curious as you are.

I've had various LCD screens for a while and have no problems gaming at 800x600 or 1024x768 (non-native) resolutions...
The only thing I'd do for widescreen is either hack the game to play in widescreen so it doesn't stretch the image or use nvidia's tool to maintain aspect ratio (I'd rather have black bars instead of fatties running around). -
I was in the same boat.. I originally came here to look at the asus G1s reviews before I bought one but I started reading about sager/compal and a fully loaded one was cheaper than the asus package. The asus has a 1680x1050 screen and im gonna stick with that screen on my compal.

I play games on my WXGA and all I get is more picture
No stretching that I can see
Very nice when it comes to FPP games.
Apart from that, I think the sweet spot for 15,4" is WXGA+. WSXGA seems a bit too much for my taste, but I already mentioned that many times.
I wonder if you can spray your glossy screens with something or so to be more like the matte ones. Something to investigateWXGA+ Matte would be absolutely THE BEST. But oh well ;-)

If your lowering the resolution anyways, you won't get a performance hit. In fact, you will actually get a higher FPS than playing at native resolution. The crux of the matter is image quality. Stepping down from the native resolution will result in a slight smudging of the picture. You say you've been lowing the resolution on your monitors already, but can I ask if you have been doing that on CRT monitors or LCD. On CRT monitors, lowering the resolution doesn't really effect the picture quality, but the mechanics of LCD screens makes it a different story. If you've been using LCD and lowering the resolution, the effect is exactly the same on a laptop.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that, regardless of the screens native resolution, once you crank it down to 1024x768 the performance is the same as another laptop that is identical except for the screen resolution.
