I know the card does not do HD but does it accept any digital signals or is this card going to be obsulete in 2009? I found the card oem online for $76 but that seems steep for only a year of use if it is only analog signals.

It does not support HD, but since it operates off of your coaxial cable it will not be obsolete in 2009...that only applies to over the air reception.
-
coaxial cables also carry analog signals, which also will be obsolete unless you have a digital tuner or a digital converter. So I guess what I am really asking is if this internal card has a digital tuner.

No, it is not digital. However you will find that your cable TV will still be able to carry analog signal after 2009, the new law only applies to off the air transmissions.
-
Oh didn't realized that. Was under the impression that all analog was going out. Sorry, lol. Thanks for the info man. Looking like I might pick it up after all. Pretty sure it works with Windows Media Center too. Was also wondering if the remote fit into the pci express slot. Would be a good feature but not necessary I guess.

Well isn't it a hybrid card thats built into the Compal (HEL80) that should be capable of receiving digital signals (DVB-T) or are am I getting something wrong there?
But another question: What programm do you use to watch TV (analogue cable and/or DVB-T?)? I can't get any to work very well on Vista. The only one that does at least show something is K!TV, but that programm has only few features and no DVB-T support. -
Coaxial cable carry analog signals only. Digital signals are modulated into analog signals and demodulated back to digital at the device (e.g digital TV).
-
My understanding is that the internal TV tuner support both, analog TV and DVB-T, which means it has a digital demodulator as well.

I'm planning to get it myself, my concern is; it must be very difficult to install it. -
One last thing, the card has two inputs; 1) RF-in for an antena to receive DVB-T (digital video, audio and data) and 2) S-Video (analog video only). No coax interface.
-
Support for COAX interface is working.
You should receive an converter cable small size 8cm.
One end to connect to the tv-tunner other end connected to the COAX cable. -
What converter module are you using and for what purpose?
-
The card doesn't come with an S-Video in connector (4 pins video only), it comes with an 7 pins connector to receive S-Video, a composite signal and audio, sorry for my inaccurate comment.
-
wait do you know a site where you can purchase this hybrid card. The olny one I can find is this tuner from avadirect http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_parts.asp?PRID=9758
but this only analog I think, it looks different than the one you have in your link. -
I was referring to the actual connectors in the side of the laptop. The internal card would interface with these connectors internally. The 7 pins connectors is indeed for analog video and audio, but the card also supports (through the antenna) DVB-T (Digitall Video Broadcasting).
Do I properly understand your concern? -
any reason to put pics online for connection options, like cable converter, ant, remote and others.
-
Not sure about your question
-
it's no question is more something like this is what i received with my compal notebook.
So anybody like to see pictures from what I have.
A complete working TV-Tuner that's working fine.
