    Hi guys,

I'm just having a look around for an ultraportable notebooks as I'm sick of my bulky Dell Inspiron 8600. I was suprised when I found the Averatec Website with the 4100/4200 - especially what it offers for that price. However, there are several questions that no review could answer sofar. So if anyone could help me, I'd much appreciate it :)

    • When is the 4100/4200 available at more online stores? At the moment it seems like there are only a few stores that have a few units available. I wish I could find some offers on ebay, but there is nothing yet.. :-/
    • I saw a threat here where people would like to compare the 4100 with the 4200 to see which CPU works more efficient. As I'm not a techy, I would just like to know where the major differences are? I mean how does the AMD CPU usually performe when compared to the Centrino?
    • I'm a webdesigner and actually love the huge resolution of my Inspiron 8600. But I really am tired of the weight of it, so I decided to get an ultraportable soonish. I'm usually working a lot with Photoshop, Homesite, Freehand and all Office programs. Could anyone tell me if the built-in graphic card of the 4100/4200 would effect the performance when working with those programs a lot? Does the graphic card play a major role when it comes to application performance or should I more worry about RAM? I'm just not sure if I should give up my Inspiron with an ATI Radeon for a built in graphic-card... :-/
    • Does anyone know how and where I get a cheap offer for the 4100/4200 that delivers internationally? I'm based in Melbourne, Australia and it seems really hard to find a shop that ships internationally...
    • If anyone owns a 4100/4200 and wouldn't mind answering some more questions, please let me know. It would be much appreciated.

    Thanks a lot guys...

i have the 4265 .. the graphic card shares RAM ..usually 16mgs up to 96mgs max = you cannot set it -it set it based on ?? got me?? ... if you have a computer now with separate graphic card with own ram you are not going to like the sharing ... i find it works fine for video editing BUT when i open media manager which then has hundreds of thumbnails of clips/stills it bogs down taking minutes to refresh the thumbnails ... on my HP with a 3700 AMD64 with a Nvida card with 64mgs there is no problems using media manager .. i usually turn off media manager on the 4265 ...
photoshop CS works OK on the 4265... next week i'll be adding a 1 gig memory chip (total 1.2gigs so maybe that will make a difference??
if you need excellent graphics i recommend you get a computer that the graphic card has it own memory ...

the sony 460 i believe has it own graphic card with separate ram ....

    oct 3,2005 i just added the 1gig memory =total 1.25gig ..
there is no problem using media manager loaded with 150 clips plus over 120 stills thumbnails are immediately .. the extra memory = night-day difference between 512mgs vs 1.25gigs memory .. all programs seem quicker ...IMO well worth the $105 for the 1 gig (simpletech memory 145 - 40 rebate) ..
