    A clonepost from the Sager board. See if I can get more answers this way. ^^;

I have a list of questions regarding this notebook. Answers would be greatly appreciated.

    1. What is the build quality of the machine. Is it sturdy? Is there any wobble/weakness?

    2. What is the battery life for: Low-power/Casual Typing & Surfing/Gaming, respectively.

    3. I never plan to run off of the battery for gaming. Does the very present of the 8600M GT in the system lower the battery life even when not in heavy use? (word processing, internet browsing, etc)

    4. What is the sound quality from the speakers? (With low being Frankenstein Through A Kazoo, high being Toshiba's Harman Kardons.)

    5. What is the customer service like? What would be the best way to go about ordering one/who would be the best company to order from?

    6. How hard is it to acquire replacement batteries, when the need should arise?

    7. Is there any residual headphone jack noise, screen grain, radiation leaks, demonic possession, etc, etc that I should know about?

    8. Are there any reported common or uncommon faults with the systems, and if so, how hard is it to replace the system once ordered, if it turns out to be faulty.

    9. What is the average wait/shipping time through respective companies?

    10. How is the venting/fans/cooling? Would I be able to have this on my lap? Does it heat up to the point where palm rests become untouchable?

    11. How durable, long lasting, easy to use is the keyboard and touchpad? Ease of typing, ease of clicking, ease of cursor movement?

    12. What is the quality of the webcam/microphone?

    13. What is the ease of acquiring a wireless signal?

    14. Would I be better off ordering the Sager or Compal version of this machine? Which has the better craftsmanship?

    15. What is the likelihood of dead pixels being on my screen when I receive it? Who do I have to kill in response?

oooh boy this is a lot of questions. try reading the reviews for this notebook to get more info such as on notebookreiew.com itself or here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Compal-FL90-Notebook.4209.0.html

I have a list of questions regarding this notebook. Answers would be greatly appreciated.

    1. What is the build quality of the machine. Is it sturdy? Is there any wobble/weakness?

Build quality is very good. Everything is tight and snug.

    2. What is the battery life for: Low-power/Casual Typing & Surfing/Gaming, respectively.

With everything on low power, you can easily achieve at least 3 hours, if not. If your gaming, probably around 2 hours or less. Of course, your mileage will vary.
    3. I never plan to run off of the battery for gaming. Does the very present of the 8600M GT in the system lower the battery life even when not in heavy use? (word processing, internet browsing, etc)

As long as your not using it to game, it won't suck a ton of battery. Of course having it in your system (compared to integrated video or a less powerful video card) alone will be using more battery power. I doubt this question will matter very much though.

    4. What is the sound quality from the speakers? (With low being Frankenstein Through A Kazoo, high being Toshiba's Harman Kardons.)

Nothing great like altec lansing or harmon kardons and lacks bass but other than that it's pretty good quality compared to others.

    5. What is the customer service like? What would be the best way to go about ordering one/who would be the best company to order from?

Either xoticpc.com or powernotebooks.com will give you excellent customer service.

    6. How hard is it to acquire replacement batteries, when the need should arise?

If customer service is excellent, there shouldn't be a problem in purchasing a replacement battery.

    7. Is there any residual headphone jack noise, screen grain, radiation leaks, demonic possession, etc, etc that I should know about?

Some report a hiss or whining noise in the headphone output, although i do not have that problem. Screen is excellent quality, just bad viewing angles and backlight bleed but otherwise it's great.

    8. Are there any reported common or uncommon faults with the systems, and if so, how hard is it to replace the system once ordered, if it turns out to be faulty.

    No idea.

    9. What is the average wait/shipping time through respective companies?

Call them up for this information.

    10. How is the venting/fans/cooling? Would I be able to have this on my lap? Does it heat up to the point where palm rests become untouchable?

Exhaust vent is located at the back. Extended use will result in warm palmrests but very much bearable.

    11. How durable, long lasting, easy to use is the keyboard and touchpad? Ease of typing, ease of clicking, ease of cursor movement?

Both keyboards and touchpad are good. Keyboard has a little flex and touchpad vibrates a little when tapped. If you've used other laptops before, this one is no different in terms of ease and use.

    12. What is the quality of the webcam/microphone?

Webcam is very good. Microphone can use some work.

    13. What is the ease of acquiring a wireless signal?

Depends how far your standing away from the wifi source, no?

    14. Would I be better off ordering the Sager or Compal version of this machine? Which has the better craftsmanship?

Both are essentially the exact same machines.

    15. What is the likelihood of dead pixels being on my screen when I receive it? Who do I have to kill in response?

Very unlikely. But this is LCD screens so theres absolutely no gurantee you will or will not get a dead/stuck pixel. You can probably get a replacement within the first 30 days if the problem is really that bothersome.
