Hi, I noticed that most of the shops charge extra for Corsair memory chips. How is the performance of Corsair compared to other brands? Is it significant enough to justify the extra $s? thx
-
Performance for the majority of notebook RAM is going to be the same from module to module , because latency values and frequency is going to be the same. Generally, RAM from more reputable manufacturers is a litte more, but the price is most of the time quite low, an they compete with the lower end memory. I would advise to go with reputable RAM, from manufacturers such as Corsair, Crucial, OCZ and Kingston. There are other ery good manufacturers aswell.

How much $$? I wouldn't spend more than 15-20 dollars; and that's only for the name. Notebook memory isn't under as much stress in laptops as it is in gaming desktops. As long as you have a warranty on the memory I would go with any brand. (aside from the bragging factor
)

I paid $65 for a GB of RAM for my HEL80.
It was Corsair, their ValueSelect line. Works very well. -
Please keep in mind that memory is very much like notebooks. There are only a few true memory chip manufacturers, most of the "name branding" is purely paying for a label. Some of them use their own PCB's to attach the memory modules together, but it all has a lifetime warranty so I wouldn't worry about paying more or less unless you are going for leetness, which much like the word, isn't officially recognized =P

Hi Kaoya,
Your question has been well-answered above. I personally paid the premium for Corsair RAM in my notebook, but I don't think it's an absolute must. If you're on a tight budget--you may want to go with the lower-priced stuff.
Also...if you wander over to the hardware forum here at NBR, I know that there are a few discussions about name-brand RAM that should be easy to find and read through.
