    Random Ie/firefox windows opening.

    On my laptop (Averatec 7170) I get random internet windows opening. By random I know they open on their own, without me doing anywhere. I can be far away from my laptop and they will open. They go to my homepage which is a blank page. Sometimes it's just one at a time and then one a few minutes later and sometimes it's twenty or thirty at a time. It just keeps going and going. I have AVG as my anti-virus, Nothing gets rid of it, everything comes out clean. About a month ago I installed a fresh copy of XP and even after the format it did this. I use firefox as my default browser so they open in firefox. If I uninstall firefox they open in Internet Explorer. They are completely random, sometimes they won't do it for an hour or so and other times they do it right after I start it up.

    Things I have done....

    1) I have wiped and did fresh install of xp.

    2) I have swapped hard drives with my brother laptop (same as mine) and it stills does it with his drive in there.

    3) I have swapped the ram out and still the same thing.

    It's getting very frustrating because it keeps disturbing me from my work. I've researched this and I can't find anything to do. Could someone please help.

    Its not a virus. I have been through all that already.

    might be keyboard problem, clean you keyboard thoroughly.
    do you have any special keys on your notebook to launch default browser ?try to find if you can disable it.

    or do you have a button that launches stuff such as browsers? it could be faulty or a short.

    a brush, a compressed can of air, vacuum cleaner. no need to take it apart.

    Download hijackthis, scan and save the log and copy/paste the content of said log in here:
    http://hijackthis.de/

    It should tell you if you have something taking over your browser and whatnot.
