Cloudfire also brought up this thing, the FXI Cotton Candy: Cotton Candy (prototype) FXITech

But it apparently is going to cost like $200! It's a PC on a thumb drive, but come on, $200!

I like the Cotton Candy better, but can't I get the same functionality with a USB drive loaded with Ubuntu? <$30 too.

Well you can, but you need a PC for that. With the Cotton Candy, the PC is on the chip, so just plug into any USB monitor or TV (well need keyboard/mouse too) and bam, you're in business. But if it truly ends up being $200, forget it. WAY overpriced. $50-60 is more realistic, even $100 I could see, but as it stands, sorry, $200 for no storage (requires microSD), no input device, no display, and computing performance of a smartphone. I can buy a 10" netbook with all that functionality, comes with 2GB RAM, probably minimum 160GB hard drive, CPU/GPU, display, and keyboard, along with USB and HDMI for $250, sometimes even $200.

Yea $200 makes no sense compared to $30. Fedora and Python. Are we made or are we made? I hope they get moving on the shipping. I'm gonna built a clear case for it, lol seriously.

This will definitely be one fun little project box though. If it's powerful enough I can see lots of uses for it.

This seems right up your alley then. It's weaker than the Cotton Candy, but it's $74 and has the same form factor.

So.... where do I buy a Pi at? My girlfriend's interested in it and I think it'd make for a great birthday gift this month.

That does look great and a lot smaller. The Raspberry Pi costs about $45US now, shipped and is much bigger. This is the size of a USB thumb drive and more powerful.

Got my Raspberry Pi in the mail yesterday. No time to hook it up yet, and believe it or not don't have an SD card even to try to load it up. It basically came packed in a little box not much bigger than a deck of cards. No cables or anything of any sort. Interested in getting this little bugger hooked up. I haven't messed with Linux much in the past but I guess now is the time to learn! :)

The PCB is actually about the same exact size as my touchpad on my laptop. :p

Welcome to linux. :) I'm anxious to hear how it goes when you get it up and running. I was very interested in Raspberry Pi when it was first announced.

I also received my confirmation email, a few days ago, that it has shipped.
Hopefully I'll have it for this weekend.

I will fuss around with it with a USB boot until I get my 16GB SDHC card. I also have a USB wi-fi adapter but not sure if there's any drivers for Linux. Will have to find out. Don't even know brand.

IMHO, they should have ditched the ethernet port, added wi-fi, and put USB side by side instead of on top of each other. But I'm nitpicking.

Congrats man! I am also waiting for mine to be delivered. Can't wait to get it running and write a few scripts on python, perhaps others here will find them useful :)

    You should upload some pics!

Gotta brush up on python too. I'm too old to learn new things.

    EDIT:
I'm posting from my Raspberry Pi now. Sheesh, I know NOTHING about Linux. It didnt like the cheap 8GB SD card I found, so using my 16GB from my digital camera and working fine.

There was also nothing telling you how to start up the GUI. It was all command line and I had nightmares of DOS all over again.

    Type: StartX

and BAM! There you go. Not sure why this isn't explicitly stated anywhere. In any case time to figure out what's ARM compatible.

This is a good shop for Pi cases and other accessories:
    https://www.modmypi.com/shop/
They also got a Pi + Case bundle for £35.99, which is now out of stock, but they say new stock will arrive at November 22nd(3 days from now).

I bought mine from RS-Electronics, and although I also ordered a case, I must point out that my Pi arrived in a nice plastic box that after a few cuts can be modified to a very nice case, If i would have known it will arrive with that box, I wouldn't have bought the case.. :)

I don't have a case, but want one. It is very fickle about the type of SD card it uses too. I went through several before finding one that worked. By the time you buy all this stuff though, you could buy a cheap slim desktop or laptop even that is more powerful.

Why aren't there any accessories for it in the States?

I also ordered one of these little guys and it works great.

LOL. $400 for a case, 64GB SSD, and 640x480 screen. I'd rather buy a netbook.
