Realtek Audio doesn't seem to support it. Nor does the External Behringer card I bought.

Is there any external program I can get to force it to record from mixer? Thanks.

We need some more details. Do you mean recording from the stereo mix? What OS are you using?

Yes. Windows XP. THere's no option to record from the stereo mixer. Only "Mic Volume" and "Line Volume".

I also seem to get a ridiculous amount of noise using the headphone jack.

Using Windows XP, double-click on the standard WINDOWS speaker (volume control) icon. Click on "Options," then "Properties."

With Realtek, you may have to change the "Mixer Device." On my system, all I have to do is select "Recording" under "Adjust Volume to."

Once your recording device is selected, you should be able to put a check into "Stereo Mix" under "Show the Following Volume Controls."

If you do not HAVE this option, it may be a limitation to your Realtek sound card, because I have the option on my desktop and both of my laptops.

ADDENDUM: If your notebook has a Line In port (NOT a Mic port), you could always try using an 1/8" cable to run from your headphone jack into your line in jack. Not the greatest method in the world, but it will work.

There is quite simply too much noise coming from the laptop's internal sound. It's awful. There's also a constant hiss. It distorts everything below a certain volume horribly. Is this normal for this Realtek "HD" soundcard? It's only when I use headphones, though. The speakers don't do this, but being laptop speakers, have no bass so are pretty useless.

Are you shure you couldnt use USB or firewire? And I think that the 'HD' sound is only output, for the optical output... And btw, that disortion and noise, is it coming in irregular patterns or is it constant?

What happens if you try this while running on battery power only? You could have a ground loop, which would cause a hum when running on AC power.

I still hear it running from battery. Why is there some kind of light coming out of it?

The red light is because the machine has SPDIF optical out also :) (Digital sound via optical cable).
