OK, I understand about making your own recovery CD from your hard drive, but what about buying a laptop that needs repair, and part of that repair includes a broken hard drive? Can you call Averatec and get a new recovery disk?

    Thanks,
    Carl

You would use the recovery CDs, if it is provided to you. This depends on if the owner gave your the CDs when you bought the defective notebook.

You might be able to call Averetec to get the recovery disks, or use any old OS install disk (probably WinXP). After that, you can download any drivers that are not immediately recognized.

I don't believe Averatec ever included recovery CDs with any of their laptops. Unfortunately you may be SOL if your looking to put a factory image on there. If you have one you could probably re-install XP using a Microsoft disc and use the key that's labeled on the laptop. Besides, then you'll end up with a clean install.

Some included recovery cd/dvd others used a hidden partition on the HD which is useless when the HD fails. You can download all drivers from Averatec website. But you will need to use a OEM XP CD to do the install, just enter the key on the bottom of the nb. That what I did on my 6100. Was a lot cleaner install, did not have all of the extra junk that they install. Move up to one of the 7200rpm drives you will love the speed.

Actually with Averatec, it depends on your model. I've noticed on their web site they do indeed have images for some of their laptops, but not all of them. Go take a look maybe you will get lucky.
