My 6130HS hasn't been working right recently so i am going to reinstall everything from scratch, my question is: should i use an xp home disc i have and then install necessary drivers off the recovery discs and then go to averatecs website and get those updates. Or should i just use the recovery discs. I'm comfortable doing it with the original disc, but wonder what others think. I thought that it would be better to use a full version and not just a image of windows.

The easiest way is to just restore from the recovery discs. If you have an XP home disc that was not included with the notebook, installing from it will require activation. That means if that disc and serial number has been used on another computer, You won't be able to activate it until you uninstall any copy of XP home you may have put on another computer from that same disc/serial number. After that you will then need to track down all the averatec driver on the net, as they might not be available from the recovery discs if the recovery disc is just an image of your basic original install.

I installed from my XP disc and it worked fine, you have a serial number on the bottom of your laptop so you dont have to worry about not being able to activate it. It's all up to you, if your like me and want the cleanest install then do it from the XP disc and reinstall the drivers from averatec's website, but if you dont want to spend time finding and installing drivers then go with the recovery disc.

I would try the omega drivers and try using the updated agp, ide, and sound drivers:

    Video card drivers,

    AGP

I had no problems with these drivers, but thats just me so use these at your own risk!

Well after the reinstall with the full xp disc, xp seems to be bigger and taking more space, but all in all it seems faster then before, and the big thing is that it works now. The mic may be acting up, but i prolly just have to play with it. Having no problems, will see how it acts on battery, will say if it does different.

Glad to see a "normal" install go without much hassle for you!

One trick of mine is to have my own backup disk made. All necassary and updated drivers and any other "required" apps like firewalls and the such. I have used this method for many systems and its never failed to save me time and headaches, cinsidering I like to reinstall the OS on a regular basis.
