    Hi,
I'm sure someone already addressed this issue but I made the horrible mistake of buying an averatec 7115 and I have been paying the price. My current problem lies with the screen which can no longer stay up on it's own power. I had cracks in the case, which developed into a break on the left side breaking the case, then it went to the left side and did the same hence I cannot use this away from my desk anymore. I am looking for someone who knows where I can buy a replacement lid for a 7100 series as well as lcd(it suddenly developed a rather thick white line on the right side all the way down the screen, very irritating.)

Basically what I am hoping for is a solution until I can save enough to buy a macbook or any other computer for that matter.

    Hey Drumma,

I have to assume you're out of warranty with the beast otherwise you'd be screaming and shouting at Averatec for providing such a design flawed machine to the general public.

Your's is not a new set of issues with this model series. On the old Averatec User's Forum, before it's unexpected demise, there were 10 of us with exactly the same white or other colored line in exactly the same spot. Luckily, mine developed while it was still under warranty. The bad news was that Averatec didn't have any LCD replacements so I had to wait over 2 months for mine to be replaced. It is indeed a defective LCD screen. If it's not under warranty, the cost just for a replacement screen (no labor) is at best $395. The cracked case is a whole nother matter and has been covered pretty extensively by the first post in this segment of the forum.

If you're under warranty, run don't walk to the Averatec warranty support line. They do now have a "pallet" of replacement screens for these units. As to the cracked case, who knows.

If not, I'd take it as an omen and use it as much as you can and otherwise firgure it's going to be a part-out eventually and figure on buying a more substantial unit. This, of course, after suitably screaming and shouting at Averatec (not that this will do you any good whatsoever).

Sad that what could have been a good reasonably priced unit turns out to be such a design disaster.
