Does anyone know when the SX is coming out? I saw past threads that said March, but I can't find it on their website.
Also, forgive me for being a newbie to P1, but what's the different between the SX and the ASUS Z35f?
-
The release of the Z35f has been delayed, which is why (I assume) the SX's release has been put off. Portableone modifies the units somewhat (previous models had some heat dissipation changes), an option for a transreflective screen upgrade, multiple configuration options and, best of all, is backed by their fabulous customer service.
If you want better info., call them. -
Anyone know if P1 is going to carry/modify the W7J? SX sounds nice, I'd love to buy from P1 but I'd like dedicated graphics.
-
Looks like it will be next month for their new models; you should call or e-mail them if you want more specific information to see if they will have something to suit your needs.
-
Finally the SX's have arrived and will be officially released and launched next week!
-
-
Or you could just save yourself the hassle and send me a couple units for review -
When will the Portable One website be updated w/ info on the new SX?
-
Should be up Wenesday or Thursday. Thank you
-
-
Any estimate on battery life?
-
Between 3-4 hours, depening on work load.
Other specs can be found here. -
I imagine its screen is vcut?
-
Yes, should be same screen as the one put in the W7J.
-
****, that completely destroys it for me.
-
What... not good, or you already got something else?
-
It's all that bleeding that they claim isn't actually bleeding, so somehow it's supposed to be ok. I'll admit, I'm a monitor snob, but that's just too much. I seriously hope they go LED backlighting next generation and bury this vcut technology deep.
-
Have you actually seen a V-Cut screen?
There was a video posted in the Asus forum.

I didn't see anything drastic, maybe it's only on an all-black screen?
Would Portable One's TFT display upgrade address this at all? -
I would reconsider you viewpoint... besides, there's always out 15 day no hassle policy [refund or exchange]. -
Yeah, I've seen a couple W7J's, one far worse than the other. It's not much of an issue when you're word processing and such, but I move back and forth between programming on an all black screen (linux console) where bleeding is very obvious, and between working with photos and other graphics where bleeding can throw you off. Given, most of my graphics work will be done on an external monitor, it's not always.
-
I will see if I can confirm the v-cut LCD's being used in the Z35F... I'm fairly sure they are at this point.
However, if you are looking for an 12-13" ultraportable, I would recommend the W5F.
It has the same resolution 1280x800 and a great backlight dispersion.
I use this model as my primary computer, so that should tell you how comfortable this model actually is to use.
I would have never thought it, but this has been the best computer I ever owned.
I do a lot of graphic design [our site, other productions] and the contrast ratio is really nice on this LCD [blacks are black...].
Anyways, I would be happy to answer any more questions you might have.
Thanks! -
You don't have access to any more of those black W5F's, do you? The keyboard layout looks pretty much ideal, does yours have any flex? I think I'll have to read some reviews. I always thought it looked kind of ugly, but your pictures are revealing a quality that I'd missed before.
I'm actually looking 12-14" with a very remote possibility of 15". I wanted discrete graphics, but with an XGA or WXGA screen it's not vital. For a 14" I'd also really like a modular bay so I can swap optical, battery, and a second hard drive; like with the T60. I'd also really like carbon fiber or magnesium alloy, but will accept plastic if it's quality, and a solid keyboard is my biggest necessity.
If only the V6J were a 14" book with a modular bay.
I shouldn't be posting this here, though. I'm not a thread hijacker! Ok, so maybe I am... but just this once -
I wouldn't worry about it, some Sony people are learning of a wonder notebook manufcaturer... ASUS.
No black W5's [W5Ae or W5F], only white W5F's in the US...
They are not ugly either... far from it. Very sexy indeed.
Shame on you...
What you described in the 14" requirements would be more than satisfied by the ASUS W3J.
We have a few left at this moment... it's our best seller to say the least.
I'm surprised you didn't mention it. Have you seen it before? -
No I haven't, and I discarded it at one point because the resolution is quite low for the screen size. I also prefer the standard aspect ratio and matte finish of the T60, so I just let the T60 push the W3J out of contention, but the screen on the T60 pretty well sucks, so...
So you can use a battery in the bay of the W3J, but does it have a hard drive adapter available? -
Yes, the W3J has a modular bay for a 2nd battery or a HD.
It's hot swappable, which is nice... -
If I ordered a W3J from you, would you be able to get me the hard drive housing?
-
If ASUS ever gets them in... hopefully soon.
Will update you on that.
SX release date?
