The SXS37 claims to have impressive battery life for a notebook containing the 8400M GPU: 4.8 hours with 6 cell.

    Have you verified this?

Yes, that seems to be nearly impossible, considering the fact that the S37 doesn't have switcheable graphics (8400M/X3100) or an LED backlit screen. However, if it really does get 4.5-5 hours on a 6 cell, congrats to Asus on finally making a portable with good battery life.

I'm also very interested in knowing what kind of battery life can be expected. I plan on getting both the 6 cell and the 9 cell battery, but it would be great to be able to get even 3.5 - 4 hours with the 6 cell. That way I could save the 9 cell just for trips.

The other Asus notebooks that have similar specs (W7S, F9S/Dc, U3S) all have battery life that is well under 3 hours, so I would be very surprised if this broke 3 hours, much less 4 or 5.

I was looking at the pictures of the keyboard of the SXS37 and noticed a few things. The left side shift key is really small and the caps lock key is really big, which seems weird since the caps lock isn't a key you generally use a whole bunch in comparison to the shift key.

Also, I can't see if their is a dedicated delete key?

Great news, Ivan---I was just going to email you but checked here on a whim instead.

The Sony SZ series looks nice and I was tempted to have one shipped instead since the SX was delayed, but I decided to hold out for the SXS37 in part because of the TRIO screen option (have it on my MXW3V and love it). I'm curious about how the 256MB 8400G graphics in the SX will compare to the SZ's 64MB 8400 GS chip. Are all 256 MB dedicated, or is 128 dedicated/256 shared? The G is 8 bit and the GS series 16 bit, and I don't have a feel for which graphics configuration will be faster---any thoughts?

Looking forward to shipping day! Thanks.

To piggy back off this post, the pictures look like a European/British keyboard (large Enter Key, Pound Sign not Dollar Sign etc.) are those just demo pictures or does it only ship w/ the european keyboard and not an american style keyboard

Definitely, the GS is the more powerful graphics card, because regardless of VRAM, the core has more stream processors and shaders and such. Essentially, the core is faster, so the lesser amount of VRAM will not matter much. Plus, the 8400M can always take memory from the system RAM (TurboCache) if it needs to.

DTX--the whitebox model of the S37 sold in the UK by Rizeon says "Nvidia Geforce 8400M G 256MB Dedicated VRAM". Ivan, if you're here, maybe you can clarify how much dedicated VRAM the SX37s has.

Nice find! Except for the foriegn language bit, but thats ok. They list one of the problems as short battery life (and the graph shows just under 2 hours), so theres no way that the 4.8 hours on a 6 cell thing is correct.

First batch of units that arrived were White & Silver trim and had slightly different spec's; the Silver & Black units are suppossed to have 256MB dedicated NVIDA GPU's but after waiting over 6 months getting wrong colored units etc...I will not comment until I have one in my hand. They are very nice looking units, but white / silver...?

I think they shipped you the S37s, which have the white exterior and silver interior (i thought it was a bit darker, actually). The Z37s is the black exterior/silver interior model. AFAIK, the Z has a fingerprint reader, whereas the S does not, and there are other minor details that differ between the two models.

On these we have to work directly thru Taiwan and their US distribution facility and just about everyone in the US is confused causing all sorts of issues....really need to start learning Chinese!

I personally don't like white but they are extremely nice, we just sent a bunch back to their US distribution facility so you will start seeing them in the channel.

Sry its a bit late, but does anyone have a measure for the approximate heat output on this lappy? like is it warm, nice, hot, etc?

Probably not, since nobody has gotten one of these yet. Most of the other similarly sized Asus notebooks are getting pretty hot, so I would assume the Z37s would as well.
