So some things have changed. Let's put it behind us. The Whitebook is still around and it's not going to disappear or all of a sudden stop working because of some corporate falling out.
Mine just hit Phase 2. How long did yours take to ship after hitting Phase 2?
Does anyone have (serious) suggestions on what the first steps should be after installing my copy of Vista 64.
-
Mine shipped in 9 business days from the time I paid for it. Install the Audio drivers.
They'll ship you a CD with all the drivers you need.. I suggest downoading 3dmark06 and running it. What are your rig specifics?
-
E,
What is going to be your next rig? -
Single ATI 3870
4gb Ram
Vista 64 -
I'm waiting since 15 January for my Nagamaki from K|N. first shipping got returned (smart advice: don't use USPS to ship to Europe).
9 January, payment. 14 January confirmed payment. 16 January shipped. 4 February returned to K|N. Never got a tracking number though. If I had I could call the customs so they wouldn't return the notebook.
So I'm waiting now since 4February... I want my new baby :<

ouch! the idea of usps going overseas is crippling.

I ordered my Whitebook from Newegg and received it in about 3 days. That's pretty amazing considering I live in Hawaii. Regrettably, this was a day after we found out it will be discontinued. Oh well, I'm still stoked.
RSF, I recommend you update the drivers first. -
USPS is really a pain to ship to Europe although I never got any problem with them before. I've received things from the USA using USPS to the exactly same address without any problem only one time 3 days delay. Big packages. +20pounds. -
You should ask for tracking and make sure you have insurance, even if you pay extra for it. Dont want a $$$$ machine to go missing.
Why was the first notebook returned for anyway? -
It must have insurance. I'm not responsible for the shipping. He told me he would give me the tracking number several times but I never received it.
I don't have any clue why the notebook got returned. There's no reason whatsoever to the return. There are some rules in the shipping, if the address is not correct, if there isn't a bill, if the bill doesn't have a value (can be "offer" or 0 but must have something) etc. they return the package. But if everything is right, there's no reason. I think it's USPS problems. -
Contact the store you bought it from and demand for a tracking number. Sounds fishy to me.
-
E-Wrecked,
do you recall your length in Stage 2? -
I think it was about 4 days? Maybe 5?
Oh, and my next will be the Phantom from Clevo/Sager with the i7well.. That's what I keep telling myself. By May there may be another rig on the market that catches my attention. Just gotta wait an see. I miss my whitebook tho. I'm lonely without it.
-
. I doubt I can hold off that long, there are too many good games out!
-
-
I'd love to build a chassis an stuff.. But not sure I have those type of mad skills
anyhow, I'm willing to try and wait.. But I have a feeling that I'll buy something small in the interem. Just gotta wait and see.
-
How about a Qosmio X305 Q701 with a fan mod and a T9600, scored 10205 in 3dmark06...lol.
-
Hmm. I'll think bout it.
-
E i could never see you in anythign that didnt break 15k.....if you got a netbook i would faint
-
i gotta killer deal on a used fl92 makes a great temp system see sig.. =)
-
Nevermind E, just sold it an hour ago. Thanks for considering it though....lol
-
Why do you guys go through systems so often? Is the Whitebook not good after a year?
-
I'm not sure what you mean. My Qosmio was not what I was looking for. My whitebook however is everything that I've been looking for, and I'll probably stick with it for the next 3+ years, seeing as how it's devoured pretty much every game that Ive thrown at it, and the fact that the only thing holding it back is driver support, it can only get better.
-
-
Don't have any remorse! That rig is amazing! You will surely be impressed.
-
yeah, kind of wish i did get a chance to test out a whitebook, but it seems that more and more makers are coming out of the closet and allowing over clocking of the system. that 17k w90vp score that ichime posted seems very interesting...if they got that, then the system could probably hit 18k or so with the right owner.... looks like it might have your name on it E???....lol.. they had the fsb up to 1400mhz
me, going for one of the new clevos i thinki. -
I was actually just thinking bout that.. Tax return should be here on the 20th and I may be pulling the trigger. My iPhone isn't cutting it. Gotta find the PLL so I can OC my iPhone

Saw the option so why the hell not.
If you're of the same ilk you should recognize my avatar too. -

Again, I have six desktops sitting around equipped with maybe 8-10 fans each, waiting for the day I get back into the overclocking scene. Got watercooling and phase change units too. That's how Gautam has the WR of 35k for 2DMark2006.
I'm out of gaming now but if I was, I'd just get that Nvidia GT285 or whatever card out that they say can run every game including Crysis at max settings (and you don't need SLi). In two years anyway, the dual 4870s will pale in contrast to the latest-and-greatest out.
As far as laptops go, the overall firepower of the Whitebook will last you for a while. And look what happened to that Gateway 7301 or whatever; when it was discontinued it actually gained popularity with people scouring the web to find any new units left. -
well. K|N said that the customs returned the notebook again. So I'm waiting for the refund. I'm really sad. I would love a Nagamaki
I don't have any clue why the customs returned the notebook. I never received any tracking number (even when I asked for it several times) so I can't ask them why they returned etc.
Interestingly in the very next day after calling K|N to known what was going on I received a package (some books) from US sent by UPS with no problems whatsoever.
I don't known what to do now. I was thinking about ordering from Xotic but they don't have it available. I'm also thinking about the new Asus but it's going to probably be much more expensive then the ocz whitebook.
I guess I'll go for Alienware, at least I known they will give me a tracking number and they will ship from UK so there's no problem with customs and/or shipping and 0% taxes. But I don't like Alienware =(
TKX to K|N for trying to send the notebook. Although almost no answers to emails and no tracking number, Mark was very available and helpful on the phone (not cheap to call from Europe), I really liked it. I'm really sad about all this. I would love a Nagamaki. Next time I'll go to USA I'll buy a notebook from K|N. -
XoticPC should have the OCZ Extreme 840 back in stock in about 6 weeks give or take, according to Justin over in the XoticPC forums. Yes, he would know these things.
-
6weeks is a LOT. I waiting since 7 January. any advice to me? I'm thinking about buying a cheapest AW option and then upgrade it myself.
-
-
If I had a tracking number I could call them and ask what happened etc. But I never received any tracking number so I couldn't do anything. I don't known why it was returned. And it's not an issue with the address because I receive packages from US to the exactly same address.
Although K|N told me they will refund because they can't ship I'm still asking for the tracking numbers in order to fill a complain against the customs. -
Just call customs and ask for the grievances department, and request a for to file a formal complaint. That usually gets the attention of those that need to know. However, for the whitebook, I personally would wait, as I have never been happier with a laptop especially in performance. AW or XoticPC, they are the same thing, only you pay for the brand when you buy from Alienware. I already proved that, in another thread a while back, and the fact that ExoticPC will price match any competitor, plus they have military and student dicounts.
