I had just started windows and noticed when i logged on the log in sound got scratchy and slow. So i played some music and it seemed fine, but when i do the smallest things like opening a folder it will slow down and sound scratchy while its loading/opening. I don't really know the problem. I did just install a 2 gig stick of memory, there is one 512 stick, and 1x2gig stick. Maybe thats the reason ? And windows also took for ever to load up. Never had this problem before. I was thinking maybe I should just take out the 512 stick and have it only be 2 gigs. The audio is also constantly distorted when playing games such as crysis. Constant crackling noise.

Tried removing the 512, made no difference. Windows still boots slowly and sound crackles. Programs also load slow after i installed the 2 gig stick, but they preform faster when there open ?!?? Crysis was better in game, but took longer to load.

Well i tested this in ubuntu and the sound DOES NOT crackle in ubuntu, so it may be software related in windows, but i don't know what it would be software wise. And ubuntu does not take forever to load, loads quickly and normally.

Have you tried updating your audio drivers?

EDIT: fixed the problem. Uninstalled IDE controllers and it worked like a charm.

    Hey Hatrix,

Is it safe to uninstall those controllers? How do I do that process?

I'm having the same problem, the audio is distorted and slow, but not the computer... You know, those crackling sounds are killing me.

Hope you can help me with this. I think it was Windows Update the cause of this and I tried to restore the system, but there was no checkpoint available because it happened to me before and I fixed it with the system restore.

    Thanks again.
