HP/Voodoo is getting into the mix with their Firefly concept:
http://blog.laptopmag.com/exclusive-hands-on-with-voodoos-firefly-concept-gaming-laptop (link also has a video regarding the concept)
Interesting notes:
* No plans for production
* Allegedly uses 170w of power, even with a QX9300 or a QX9200? (they said 2.4ghz Quad Core Extreme Processor...), yet our systems comes with a 220W PSU. So there must be a lot of room in terms of power for our Whitebooks and M17s considering this Firefly has to also power a 2nd smaller LCD screen...
-
that second LCD will use next to no power, look at the size.
-
As I said on PCGC,it is ugly as hell!
-
that thing is the definition of UGLY
-
It's UGLY!! Look at the power birck, it's HUGE! The small screen even is even more annoying. What kind of gamers play games with a touch pad??
-
That is pretty awful.
Maybe if they took that small LCD and put it between the speakers as a flip up then shortened the top lid and palm rest....but even then I'd still prefer the Whitebook.
What Im hoping someone will do is a 16" with a 4850x2 on a single card. -
I think it's pretty cool for it's unique design, but it is horribly impractical for a laptop and the mini LCD is hilariously excessive too.... Although I could see it being used as a 'portable' desktop ala the iMac.
-
that's not a notebook.... It's a portable desktop
btw... What about their driver support? -
What's wrong with the design? I think it looks much better than the OCZ Whitebook.
(Oh no I didn't) -
interesting find ichime...
it still wont out perform the whitebook and looks are in the eye of the beholder.... guess that's why they chose to run far cry 2 in window mode. because it sure ain't doing more than 30 fps stock at 1920x1200. not to mention with another screen running in the background. the concept is there for sure... dual monitor systems and now possibly dual monitor laptops....
as for the trackpad mouse.... it's a special one allowing you to place 3 fingers on it as if you were holding a regular mouse in hand. you dont use the 2 separate click buttons or they are used as buttons 4 and 5 or can be used as secondary left and right click buttons.(that's what i got out of the explanation) macbooks have been using two finger touch for a long time. hp is trying to get into 3 finger touch it would seem.... -
Lenovo is the clear king of dual screen notebooks right now:

I kinda like the look.. It's unique.
-
off topic...

The W700 would make for a sick gaming rig if Lenovo swapped out that digitizer for a second card.
Lenovo offers ATI cards in most of their laptops and it's a safe bet they'll refresh to the 48XX series this year (CES!).
If Lenovo ever took it on themselves to pay more attention to the gaming segment I'd expect them to make use of dual ATIs or a dual GPU on a single card in their larger Ideapads. Unfortunately the Ideapads are more of a red-headed stepchild that Lenovo puts out there just to say they offer entertainment laptops. -
-
Hey.. I bought this thing didn't I? I may just buy the non-production model that looks 'unique' too. Heck, maybe they have a decent BIOS and GPU support
-
Seems like we're not the only ones with Dual ATi Mobility Radeon 3870s
