Have had the 2200 for a bit, and it worked fine. But the power switch stopped working and the machine would not, could not, power up .....ALMOST. Here was my solution.

Like some other Averatec users, the on/off switch went bad. It happens all at once and you can't see it coming. The effect is that you can't make the machine start. The switch apparently gets stuck in an "open" position. Normally the switch should "close" when you press the button, making contact, and the power will flow.

My solution, an old one, I put the laptop in the FREEZER overnight. I wanted the cold contraction to put the contacts ever so slightly in a better position to connect.

So, with the laptop at zero degrees F, I then hit the button and it powered up like new. I immediately imaged the drive to DVDs, and mailed it out for a new switch....the freezer trick is not a permanent fix by any means. But with my data in hand, life is good.

I have done this freezer treatment to keyboards and sensors that went "open" and I needed a working input device right away.

So, how can these USA-based companies allow low grade essential parts to go into their products? Well they do, and in doing so, the company's owners seem to show they just don't care. Maybe they think of their purchasers as bottom-feeders, ebay snipers, yard-sale shoppers...low lifes who only deserve a 5-cent switch and not a better 10-cent switch. One can imagine what such people must think (if they ever think about it) of the workers in PRC China making such things, earning those slave-level wages. It's sick, and and by buying PRC-made goods to save a few bucks you and I are part of the problem.

Anyway, I hope this solution works for you because if you own an Averatec and have not had this problem yet....TAG! it might well be there just waiting for that special moment.
