A gimmick and I get the feeling of "What the heck are you thinking Intel?".

Better than being stuck with Dell's Inspiron designs, i suppose.

I second that! Ugh... "What would happen if a Mac mated with a gray industrial dumpster? That's the perfect design for our new computers!"

I think this idea belongs more in the botique sub-forum then in the general sections, actually. It doesn't seem like a practical idea for the masses, and probably not even one I would consider (I don't like vacuuming the stairs of my house, why would I vacuum my computer?). However, as mentioned above, this is the kind of thing that gives you the option to be different for the sake of being diffferent. These fabrics would let you step away from the crowd... and isn't that why you consider Sager, Alienware, Voodoo, WidowPC, etc. in the first place?

Man, talk about getting your laptop dirty quick. Carpet material attracts dust and many bacteria. < Most definately not good for the components within.

Isn't there some material Intel could use instead to create those designs? (Not rubber though - unless it is level with the plastic)

I think a couple of those ThinkPads use some sweet hard metals that are far more usefull and great for longevity in comparison to the Rugtops.

He never said it was carpet. He said it was "carpet-like material." There is a differance there bub. The last time I checked, suede can be considered to be similar to carpet. :base:
