Sharp PC-MV1214 HELP drivers

anyone own one of these, or more important, the drivers / recovery discs.

I've been told that the only support is japanese. I've searched the lot of google, on several different searches to try and find these drivers. Currently have problems with wireless support and multimedia, along with a network connection.

Please, any help is appreciated, and money will be paid for copies of recovery discs.

 

Hi, I also have a Sharp PC-MV1214 that I would like drivers for.
I know what drivers I need because a wrote them down from device manager before I re-installed windows XP. I may have to locate each driver individually from each manufacturer if I can't get the drivers from Sharp.
I contacted Sharp UK who said that they have not sold Laptops in the UK for a number of years and do not support the PC-MV1214. They said that they were imported for sale by Dixons / Currys / PC World and are supported by them via www.pcservicecall.co.uk. I have been to there website and although they list the laptop on their website, they do not have any drivers for it. I phoned them and they said to phone Sharp UK.
If you have any luck getting drivers or recovery CD's, please let me know and I will do the same.

I have this laptop, and all the restore disks.

I have problems in getting the wireless working for this Sharp laptop after a reinstallation of Windows XP (not a restore). Seems Windows doesn't detect the wireless hardware, so it don't know what driver should be installed. So would you please send me the wireless driver to me: clark_lu AT hotmail.com

I really need the drivers too!!! I did PM you but I am just writing again and to any one else who may be able to assist I need the recovery discs for this laptop as PC World have been no help at all!!

Try these they might work, I got these from an expert from another forum...
I have a feeling the Actius MV12 is diff to the MV1214.
Mind you the Audio drivers don't even have Win2k or Win XP..

 

Great job and you are man! Cannot wait to see how WLAN works on my friends laptop.

But all in all, I've been told not to buy any Jap's laptops due to this or that kind of intended 'incompatibilities'.

 

let me know if the wireless works...none of then actually worked on my mine. i ended up going to drivershq.com which cost me $30 but at least got me the sounddrivers

The WLAN driver didn't work at all. I'm sorry to hear that you've paid for the sound driver as I DO download it somewhere from the internet.

So now have to continue looking around for the Wireless driver. Their recovery disks won't work if the hidden partition (contains some information) has been removed when doing a re-partition and reinstallation. **** JAPANESE!

hi mate ..is there any chance i could get a copy of the driver disks for the sharp pc-mv1214 .. i formatted the hard drive put xp on it..and expected to get the drivers fairly easily from the net!!! the rest is history..

hi i just joined as i was searching for some spares as i dropped my pc-mv1214 i have the box and a full 4 set of recovery cds on XP home, the pc still works but case is cracked along with the screen. It is one of the best notebooks i have ever purchased, battery still gives 2 hours plus. If anyone wants the cds i will dig them out and make a copy providing they pay for the postage and i still have some spare memory and wirless card, even have the spare dial up external modem and power supply, email me directly if you need any help................... jon

First of all I'd like to point out that this is probably the worst-supported laptop I've ever laid my hands on!

I don't usually write on these forums but it was making me laugh so much that nobody had worked out what drivers their laptop would need I thought I'd post and help you all out!

I won't go into how I did it (it's not difficult, but all you need is the Intel Chipset Identification Utility from intel.com) and it'll tell you the following:

I agree that is was easy, but I don't remember how I did get all the drivers I needed.

So does that Intel Chipset thing really work well for computers with AMD processors like this one? I never would have thought of it (but never found a need).

 

Hi guys I got Sharp MV1214 best laptop i ever had. Unluckly my daughter slipt some juice on it and screen is not working now.Rest works fine as i have tried it with external monitor.if any one wants to get rid of their sharp MV1214 at a price I ca buy .it will be great .All i need is a laptop that works no driver no cd. no operating system.As long as it truns on. I will buy it .thanks

Hi There, I have one of these as well, its been great and hasnt given an ounce of trouble - until recently. The keyboard has developed a fault, the "p" key doesnt work. I cant complain about the performance and relaiability of this machine so would like to keep it going if I can.

Anyone know where I can get a keyboard for it?

Also, I still have the original restore disks if anyone still needs a copy of them!

I've tried the WLAN drivers from the recovery CD (#3), and I've also downloaded the WLAN drivers from the Intel site. However it still won't allow me to connect to my router which is using WPA encryption. Am I missing something?

UPDATE: I found the drivers I needed here:

I had the same problem, nearly bought a new laptop!

The Wifi card in the MV1214 is only a/b compatibly and WAP encryption requires a/b/ and i (or g I cant remember) Anyway its an easy solution, on the bottom of the laptop you open the cover that has the wifi card in it (its a mini pci card) unclip the aerial wires and take the card out, then replace with a pci wifi card that can support the newer wifi standard.

I know this because I have done it and it works! If you like I can tell you which wifi module I bought, I got it off ebay for about £8.

 

I have looked at mine, its under the panel with 3 screws on the bottom of the laptop, replace the wifi card with:

broadcom bcm94318mpg

you can get them on ebay for £5, using the XP driver to install it in windows and you will be able to connect to all modern WPA encrypted networks.
