Hi all,
New to this forum but it seems to have lots of people on it who are in the know about Zepto. Basically, I'm in the market for a new laptop and am really looking to guage wether or not to get a Zepto. They certainly seem to provide the most bang for buck of all the brands but i really want to know about the reliability etc. The model i am looking at is a spec'd up 6625WD. I've looked at Dells etc but if i can be convinced zepto are mostly a good buy(i know nothing is perfect) then i will go ahead with my purchase. Incase it helps im in the UK.
Thanks all,
Ollie

Buy a 6625!
(Its a kick-ass screen)
I shouldnt be worried about having hardware problems, even if it might look like many have problems on the forums. -

Yeah what you have to remember about visiting these forums are that it is normally for the most part the users with problems that write on here, and not the bigger part of users that have no problems at all.

I think that after I got my laptop back after a bit hassle, it's very good. It's powerful enough: I got a bit over 4000 on 3dmark06 (bit overclocked). It also runs pretty cool although some say that it doesn't and fan keeps noise but not for me.
Only thing is that the normal battery last something like two hours browsing web and chatting so if you need more I suggest you to get the bigger battery as well. It lasts at least twice as long. -
Thanks to all so far. The spec im considering is below:
120GB 7200rpm SATA Harddisk
Zepto Zpro2 N-Standard (NBG)
Keyboard Znote 6x15W Grey UK
SAMSUNG DVD-RW DL
15,4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050 - 6625WD
NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT
Online discount UK 6
2.40 GHz Intel C2 DUO T8300 800MHz 3MB (Only works with Vista)
4 GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC5300 SODIMM
6 + 12 Cell battery
Microsoft® Windows® Vista Ultimate- UK 64bit
Intel® Turbo Memory 1GB
Does this seem like a good combination to people? I'm a tech person so feel free to use tech speak. I went for the Penryn as its suposed to run cooler.
Thanks -
Skip the turbo memory, its not worth the trouble when you have 4gb memory, save your money instead.

You may want to consider a big 5400rpm HDD because you get a lot more space and very similar performance to a 120GB 7200rpm HDD.

Get rid of Turbo Memory, useless...

Ok so i've dumped the turbo memory and ive taken the 'Free upgrade 250GB 5400 -> 320GB 5400' which i assume means i get a 320gb drive?
I think the decision is made then, wil try and get on with ordering it tomorrow. if anyone else has any opinions please do chip in though.
Thanks -

Yes the free upgrade means that you choose a 250GB, but get a free upgrade to a 320GB instead.

I recently made the same decision (also based in UK), the spec is really good for the money, I went for the 200Gb 7200 HD and a T9300. I had previously ordered a dell but the screen was awful, everyone says these have great screens which is really important to me.
I also ordered my memory from play.com as I can get 4Gb 800Mhz stuff for £70 delivered, I rang Zepto but they couldn't match it.
Just waiting for it to arrive now -
I'm really wondering if I should go for the 7200rpm drives, but I can think on that. Just to check does anyone know if there are likely to be any new pieces of kit coming into the zepto lineup soon that I should perhaps wait for. Really need laptop now but its always annoying when u pay money and the the next day something better arrives.
Thanks -

I don't expect there will be any significant hardware changes until mid-year, when the next Intel chipset arrives.

Ok, someone tell me whats going on!
I just went to the zepto site this morning in the hopes of ordering a pc i had specc'd up last night, and suddenly all the prices and available options have changed!
For some reason i can now only buy penryn cpu's, big harddrives, and the prices seem to have inflated drastically. what i spec'd last night for £1250 is now £1580!
I'm sure someone will now say 'should have ordered earlier mate!'.
Oh well, if this stays the case doubt i'll be going for a zepto anymore.
EDIT: on further inspection, i now have to get the 6625WD by starting from the non-power spec, and for the same price i get everything i wanted but stuck with an 80gb 5400 HDD. ah well. who knows. -
Hi
I was making changes to the website between 1.30-3.30. The new power offer will have 4GB and 320GB HDD
What specification did you want? You will have to spec up the value model which has all of the same possibilities as the power but starts off with the lowest specifications that we offer for that machine
We will make sure you will not pay more that you would have done, dont you worry
Should i buy a Zepto?
