ok so I got my Compel HEL80 in the other day from powernotebooks.com great service. loaded all the drivers and Windows XP pro.

My problem was i had a boot time of 2:52.7 seconds hanging for almost 2 min with the windows is starting screen. this for me is a really slow boot time. So I started clearing out msconfig, turned off all unnecessary services etc. droped my boot time to 2:21.9 seconds. Still to slow for me. Then I started uninstalling all the drivers and software no big change until I uninstalled Omnipass. Once Omnipass was uninstalled my boot time droped to 55.3 seconds including me typing in my password and windows loading. I like having the finger scanner but if i have almost 2 min more boot time it isn't worth the cost.

has anybody been able to fix this problem.

Yes, I agree that it's not normal. Even with everything I have installed (have not cleared anything from msconfig or run the tune-up yet) my HEL80 boots in more like 40-50 seconds.

IRF I pretty much the same config as you. It takes me about less than minute I would guess to boot up everything. This might help but did you optimize your cpus? Make sure you installed all the drivers. Here is the guide to optizmize your cpu: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=60416
I proved this to very useful when I gamed. I got an increase about 10 frames doing this. Hope this helps. I guess the last case scenerio maybe is to reformat again. But before you do that I would suggest calling up tech support. I heard they were great. Well hope this helps ya! GL!

one thing that i have done was to remove McAfee and installed AVG free.
also done the optimizations mentioned by Chaz and aznron911 and my bootup time went from 2minutes:12seconds to 1minute:4seconds.... and i have a T2300, 1G RAM anda HD at 5400rpm...

Thanks guys for all your help. this is my first laptop computer so I am working out some of what might be problems and some of what is just different on a laptop. I optimized, cleaned, and tweaked my computer down to a 45.3 second boot time 30 sec boot to log in screen where I enter my password. From what it sounds like I must of had a bad install on omnipass. I will try and reinstall down the road. Thanks alot guys for all the help.

One last question is there anygood software for controling screen brightness? I am on the lowest setting that my keyboard will put the screen at and I can still go darker and use the laptop.

I also un-installed omni pass and it cut my boot time down to 50-60 seconds.

If you're at the lowest setting the screen will go at, it won't really save any power going any lower. No reason to do so.
