Well, that was a bad idea... I have a now semi bricked laptop. It's a good thing I took time to design a nice bootscreen because that's the only thing I'll be seeing while I'm waiting for my USB floppy drive...

out of curiousity: why in the name of the flying spaghetti monster did you want to edit your boot screen? you see the thing for all of 10 seconds (maybe less) when you boot up...

It's pretty cool but dangerous. Did you use a utility to change it for you or did you actually do all the file replacing by yourself?

I don't know :D. I was playing with the Phoenix bios editor and its bootscreen editor and I made something so epic that my mind went blank and the next i know is that my laptop is stuck in bios initialisation with a shiny new bootscreen.

In the past I do the same thing with the same result.
I edited my boot screen with phoenix, flashed bios and laptop goes kaput.
But the good thing is that it recoverable, just run crisis bios and everything will back again.
You have crisis bios floppy image and how to on compal site.
And after running crisis bios you will boot up with something weird bios, but just flash it again with the most current bios and god bless you.

Phoenix BIOS edit 2.2.... or something it is not the latest Phoenix utility.
That's why things goes wrong because this is incompatible with Compal BIOS

And the latest Phoenix BIOS edit is not available for public use and impossible to get.
So my advice is to forget about further BIOS editing.

Does anyone know a good brand for usb floppy drives? I should receive my ms-1651 at the end of the week, and I think I'll sell the ifl90 on the NBR marketplace. It would be good to restore the bios before that... :D

That looks great Ayle, sorry I can't answer that question though, but here's your bump.

Are you going to continue experimenting with it though? I'd love to see a tut on changing my boot screen :D

Change your bootscreen, is it possible? Well, I guess if you know your OS that much it is not impossible. Anyway, it is just the bootscreen you're going to change.

As long as the only phoenix bios editor available will be v2 I don't think it'll be poosible to actually flash the modded bios. But you can always download it and use it tolearn more about the bios structure and play with the bootscreen emulator.

Hm, it would be awesome if Microsoft let users customize the boot up screen just like a wallpaper!

    That's just too bad :(

Microsoft doesn't have anything to do with the BIOS.

its not the logo its that the bios editor in the 2.2 version does not properly compile the bios when you add the new boot screen and save it as a rom or wph file
