As great as these forums are they can be confusing as well! I've been searching for the perfect laptop and the more I search the more I've come to realize there is no such thing as even close to the perfect laptop. After a few weeks search both in stores and on line I pretty much decided on the Fujitsu S6240 for it's size and beautiful display. Some others I've looked at are the Dell XPS M140, Sony Vaio S580, Thinkpad Z60t along with the Fujitsu. Now that I've been exploring the Portable One MX I've never come across a laptop PC with such universal praise and virtually no complaints to speak of. So I went to Portable Ones site and configured an MX and it really does come to quite a bit more than comparable specs from some of the other companies mentioned. Is the $400 transflective display just the same type of glossy display used in the Fujitsu & Sony? Thats a huge upgrade amount for the display! I don't mind paying a little more for something I'm going to enjoy and the extra customer service but the price seems more than just a little different.

The standard indoor UVA display is like the CV/Xbrite displays. The transflective upgrades are done using Mitsubishi's newest advanced photonics reflective technology so you still get the great viewing angles, plus less glare and most importantly view anywhere functionality so you can see the display under bright direct sunlight too and this new technology does not have the shadowing effect that the older transflective displays do, it actually looks better indoors too and is not quite as glossy so it does not have the glare the glossy screens are prone to.

I opted for that screen upgrade on Portableone's UX. I have to admit I was a little skeptical given the price of the upgrade, but Ivan was so amazing to deal with that I heeded his advice and after seeing the sceen I can honestly say it was money well spent! I have never seen a screen so good and I am a very visual person. It gives the color clarity and richness of the glossy screens without the annoying glare; it is comfortable to use indoors with overhead lighting and in front of a window with light shining in.

The sceen is something you use on a computer day in and day out and this screen really does make a difference! What I would suggest is that the best way to determine if it might be worth it to you is to go to a store and play with a computer with the ultrabrite/CV screens. Do you love the color saturation but find the glare annoying? Type in a Word document/read text on the Internet. Do you find you need to turn down the display or adjust the screen angle to eliminate the glare? Look at the matte screens- is text more comfortable to read? If you are one of the many people who find no issues with the glossy screens then the upgrade might not be worth it to you. If, however, you are like many others who love them but aren't sure if they can live with the glare when using it for extended periods, then you should strongly consider spending the money.

Either way, you cannot go wrong dealing with Portableone. Their customer service is nothing short of amazing! And- while I have not used the s6000 series, I have the s7020 and I can tell you from first-hand experience that the performance, reliability and build quality on the UX is FAR superior. The MX is reputedly just as durable a unit, but better performance-wise. I came very close to buying the MX, but weight was the over-riding determinant with me so I opted for the UX. Whatever screen you decide on you will be glad you bought a MX.
