My 2300 series notebook has (or I should say, had) a nasty habit of waking from sleep several mintues after I put it in my travel bag. Not a good location as the notebook cooks itself, not to mention runs down the battery needlessly.

I tried turning off the ability of every device I could from waking the PC. I tried disconnecting everything but power (USB devices, network, external monitor, ...) and waiting a couple minutes before launching sleep mode.

The problem turned out to be - the lid. When closed, it comes very, very close to the keys without actually touching them. However, a good jiggle must bring the lid into contact with a key. There is no way to disable the built-in keyboard from waking the notebook.

A recently purchased device came with stick-on pads for the base that I didn't need. The pads are about 3/8's inch (10mm) in diameter and 1/16 inch (2mm) thick, black rubber. I stuck two pads at the top of the LCD bezel just inside the notebook's own pads at this location, with a third in the center for more even support across the lid.

The pads are thin enough that the notebook thinks its lid is closed (and the spring still firmly holds the lid closed), but thick enough to prevent any contact with the keyboard. I'm thinking it is that center pad that turns the trick. The lid's own two pads allow the center of the lid to flex - probably just enough to cause trouble.
