    Solving the Averatec 3200 series overheat

    I posted this solution elsewhere, but this needs a thread of it's own.

    I had the usual overheat problems including the hot case issue ONLY when on AC power. My 3280 would run on battery OK.

    My solution was in two parts:

    1 Replace the Sempron with an Athlon. Use NEW heatsink compound.

    2 Use Speedswitch XP to get control of the CPU speed in XP. Set BATTERY OPTIMIZED for the AC POWER option. I leave it in BATTERY OPTIMIZED for the DC POWER option.

    I tried the DYNAMIC SWITCHING option,but the processor overheats after about 3 minutes at 100% and shuts down...
