    Hello!

Considering buying the 6240, have a few questions.

    1) How's it for gaming? I doubt it'd run HL2 or anything, but HL? UT2004?
    2) I heard somewhere that the hardware dvd player (i believe this was about a 6200) had trouble properly decoding dvd / had a bad picture / something like that - any truth to this?
    3) I'm considering buying refurb at a significantly lower price ($850 - i'm an incoming freshman for college, so i'm not rich yet!), has anyone had experience with this? Would battery life be significantly reduced?
    4) I assume there's no problems with non-dvd-mode video playing, right? I'm a big fan of watching downloaded shows in DVD quality.

    Thanks in advance,

I'm starting to think refurb is a bad idea, I'd want a better warranty / return option, right?

Where would I go to buy this laptop? If I bought it online, it'd be harder to swap for dead pixels and stuff, right? What about if i bought it somewhere that has thoes "extended warrenty" deals - would they replace it for things like the cracked cases that people have been talkign about?

I saw the 4265? 4526? something similar at staples, with the 13.3" screen. As a whole, does this unit feel much bigger than that?

    Even more thanks in advance,

The unit you are refeering to is indeed much bigger than the other serie, actually from what I've heard, the 4xxx laptops are a big improvment over the last models.

As far as refurbished goes, I'd recommand you buy from a place that could let you return the unit no question asked, or if you can try the unit, for the dead pixel (it happens that one company has returns for dead pixel, they sell as refurbished instead of replacing the bad part.)

I've never heard of any problems with the built-in DVD player, as far as quality is concerned.

    Hope that helps

Personally I would stay away from refurbished unit. They tend to come with short warranties and they may have already been repaired once. If something were to go wrong it will be expensive to fix. You want to have a years warranty to let things shake out. Good Luck.
